Risk Warning
Some forms of cycling are dangerous.
An ave of 36 Australian cyclists have been killed annually since 2000.  95% of these fatalities occur on the road
Other cyclists in Australia break bones and incur nerve impairment from falling off their bikes in accidents.
A cyclist could fall from his/her bike, inter alia, due to -
(i)      being hit by a car or another cyclist; or
(ii)     encountering a pothole;
(iii)    cycling too fast on a wet downhill where the coefficient of friction is much less, particularly at corners; or
(iv)    getting their bicycle wheel caught in a gap in a timber bridge.

A negligent cyclist could -

(a)    be litigated by a seriously injured cyclist, or 3rd party (ie. a woman pushing a pram on a footpath or a car driver) under common law where the damages could exceed $500,000; and

(b)    lose his/her home if he/she did not have public liability insurance which covers their negligence whilst on a push bike.

A negligent cyclist who did not have personal injury insurance (ie self-employed without income protection cover) could struggle to meet regular outgo commitments.

A seriously injured cyclist could be awarded damages which a negligent cyclist could not afford to pay if the negligent cyclist -
(I)     did not have public liability insurance cover; and/or
(II)    did not possess valuable assets.

Ø     Cycling without Public Liability cover is as silly as driving without 3rd Party -
join Bicycle NSW for PL insurance, so that all Muggs are better protected

Ø     Click on: Risk Management which warns of 'inter alia', the dangers of cycling on public roads with motor cars, potholes and over bridges with vertical timber planks with gaps

Ø     Cycling with Muggs is predicated upon notifying Bank Teller if you materially disagree with any clause(s) in Muggaccinos' "Ride Participants Liability Acknowledgment"

Pics from Wed 30th Dec, Marsfield to Brighton le Sands, historic Kurnell, Cronulla - 84km  -  7 starters

Above two pics and below pic snapped at Brighton le Sands après 41 clicks.

Our route due south from Vimiera Rd carpark Marsfield, Eastwood, Denistone, Meadowbank, South Strathfield along Cooks River to Brighton le Sands for brunch along the waters of Botany Bay, and on to Kurnell for a train back from Cronulla is not the sort of route for a Muggs' Sunday ride.  However, it is a beaut route midweek, particularly over the holiday season.

Three of us made it out to the Kurnell Lookout, where we added a sightseer to our pic 'cause her brother was taking the snap

A few of the crew took a fleeting dip outside the cafe at Kurnell Village Cafe

Scribe's wrap-up of Turra' station to assault the dreaded Old Bathurst Rd to Springwood, thence descend Yarramundi to Richmond for train to Seven Hills, then home along M2 - 88km - 6 cyclists

Four eager beavers outside Emu Plains station full of anticipation to tackle the infamous Old Bathurst Rd 'short-cut' from the Penrith basin up to Springwood

1st Nosh Stop at Aroma Cafe, Springwood having just scaled the 2.05km Old Bathurst Rd KOM Climb which Andrew aka Tugboat and George aka EnglishMan flew up, with TugBoat pushing a 39/26 for all it was worth, and hang the throbbing quads.  Justine ranked the 2.05km short/sharp ascent as 'El Supremo'.  But not having attended an Annual King of the Mountain Challenge at Berry where we climb the bestest cluster of 'real hills' in NSW, this veritable whipper-snapper, who is still wet behind the ears, wouldn't know what a real hill was.

Above 'n below pics en route from East Richmond to Seven Hills station

Secret drug intake half way up Kissing Point Rd, 'cause we was 'all on empty'  having cycled 87km out West with the temp still rising

Rap-up of Hornsby, Galston Gorge/Berowra Ferry climbs with Boxing Day meet-up at Andy's Cafe -  6 at Andy's -  44km

It didn't rain at all, but yes there was a persistent Highland Mist, but we didn't care especially as Pete aka Yamaha, albeit a tad larger around the girth than the last time he rode with Muggs at least 3 years ago, was making his comeback ride.  And ToothFairy, who made her comeback ride 9 weeks ago out to Windsor, also joined us at Andy's.

Scribe's camera phone isn't too clear sometimes, but it looks like waiting for the ferry.  Unaccountably, the bottom RHS of this pic has vanished

Above snap shows Yamaha with his bike aloft after successfully climbing his 2nd KOM Climb from the ferry to the Berowra shops, with the first being up Galston Gorge.  Pete was too pooped-out to hold his bike for this pic, so Matt did the lifting for him.

Post ride back at Hornsby carpark
