ETR Turramurra station 2:45pm. Rap-up of Tour de Duffy's Forest, West, Head and Bayview Marina - 12 cyclists - 100km from Hornsby Terry aka Navigator, Matt aka Printer, Kerry aka Miner, Jean aka ChiliDog, BakerBoy, KayakMan, BeanCounter, BigBusDriver, MediaMan, PacificPete, Bank Teller assembled around 8:30am at West Head after 44km (from Hornsby). Alas, an unscheduled and uncalled for Cannon Shot Flat rendered Jean's rear tyre looking sick 'n sorry and well past its use-by-date. When you are stuck out at West Head, it is a 25km walk back to St Ives. Hence, Jean was receptive to suggestions, particularly as no one was carrying a spare tyre. Jean inserted over the Sickly Looken' Section of the remanents of his rear tyre a 3" strip of rubber material that Rex was carrying which evidenced Jean ride another 6km back twds St Ives before a less audible deflation. Whereupon ChiliDog walked a few clicks more, and with no passing motorist doing the Good Samaritan Thing, Jean's subconscious recollected that someone, from the dim, dark past, had espoused the merit of inserting a $5 note under the damaged piece of tyre, which thankfully folded once did the trick back to St Ives, albeit Jean pedalled ever so cautiously.
Good to evidence that crew got off the roadway at our familiar Sag Stop outside the Thai Restaurant, Terrey Hills, because if a lead cyclist pulled up on the roadway, and others followed his/her lead, and a car smacked one of 'em who happened to be a Rookie who'd never pulled up there before, the lead cyclist could be litigated by the injured rookie. Not suggesting that a court would rule in favour of the Appellant. However, it could be a stressful couple of years for the Defendant. Hence, best not to do anything which could result in another cyclist getting seriously injured, because the same laws relating to negligence when driving a motor car equally apply when cycling. Plus the 2002 Civil Liability Personal Responsibility Acts, as explained at Risk Management, imposes specific obligations on anyone who influences another person's safety whilst participating in a Recreational Activity
Post-ride John aka BakerBoy reported that the remainder of the ride was uneventful, with the tucker and service at Bayview Marina Kiosk being up to scratch for our motley lot. Scribe 1 Mar '09 |
