Bank Teller's rap-up of Sunday, 3 April, Cinque Montagnes - 93km - 14 starters On a glorious, balmy early Spring morn' which peaked at 31o, ToothFairy, Tony aka QuietAchiever, Greg B, Pacific Pete, BeanCounter, Heineken, Koala Bear, Printer, Tornado, Scribe, Bazza, Publican, Mark aka LongHaul 'n ExPat all managed to keep the rubber side down over one of Muggs' oldest ride routes. Scribe ave 21.8km p/h, with Gene a tad quicker ave 22.3km p/h, with all the rest appreciably above those pedestrian speeds. Indeed Grant aka BeanCounter revealed that in last Monday's epic 176km Hornsby to Spencer 'n back, Grant ave 26.8km p/h which raised a few concerned eyebrows amongst the faster brigade of Tornado and Arno.
Post ride, LongHaul graciously paid $10 to Bank Teller as his contribution for next Sunday's inaugural Cinderella Century. Mark will be in Sth Africa for 3 weeks and will miss the 1st C.C. However, Mark has enticed two femmes who cycle with his wife, Leslie, to start our "women targeted C.C." from Nth Turra' next Sunday. Bank Teller met Debs and Frances earlier in this ride, and they won't have any difficulty peeling-off the 95km route to Mt White 'n back, with a re-charge Nosh Stop at Pie in the Sky after 62km. Muggs' quarterly C.C. is focused on encouraging more women to the social and health benefits of road cycling. Casual empiricism of the penetration rate of Sunday cycling amongst the Sydney community at large still ranks along way behind attendees of traditional churches. Muggs doesn't want to steal existing femme cyclists from other established cycle groups. So hopefully the lads that Debs and Francis usually cycle with will also join us, because Muggs' 27 Sunday rides provide a plethora of delightful Nosh Stops to visit.
Arno's wife, Sarah aka Physio, joined us at the Corner Cafe Nth Turra' post ride. Next Sunday, Sarah and Jules plan to split the 96km Century route, with Sarah riding the 1st leg to Mt. White, and Jules cycling the 2nd leg back to Nth Turra', with a Nosh Stop at PitS and another post-ride at the Corner Cafe where the grub is grouse. An option for rookies is the 48km Petticoat Prologue to Mt. White which commences at Berowra station carpark from 8:10am.
Our next Long W'end Away is Tour de Wiseman's Ferry over the ANZAC long w'end where we have 20 starters thus far. Importantly the Wisemans Ferry Inn and restaurants are 1km from our campsite. But as we learnt over the last two ANZAC long w'end visits to Wiseman's, the street lighting back to our campsite late at night isn't flash.
