Risk
Warning
Some forms of cycling are dangerous.
An ave of 36 Australian
cyclists have been killed annually since 2000.
95% of these fatalities occur on the road.
Other cyclists in Australia break bones and incur nerve
impairment from falling off their bikes in accidents.
A cyclist could fall from his/her bike, inter alia, due to -
(i) being hit by a car or another cyclist;
or
(ii) encountering a pothole;
(iii) cycling too fast on a wet downhill where the
coefficient of friction is much less, particularly at corners; or
(iv) getting their bicycle wheel caught in a gap in a
timber bridge.
A negligent cyclist could -
(a) be litigated by a seriously injured
cyclist, or 3rd party (ie. a woman pushing a pram on a footpath or a car
driver) under common law where the damages could exceed $500,000; and
(b) lose his/her home if he/she did not
have public liability insurance which covers their negligence whilst on
a push bike.
A negligent cyclist who did not have personal injury
insurance (ie self-employed without income protection cover) could
struggle to meet regular outgo commitments.
A seriously injured cyclist could be awarded damages
which a negligent cyclist could not afford to pay if the negligent
cyclist -
(I) did not have public liability insurance cover; and/or
(II) did not possess valuable assets.
Ø
Cycling without Public Liability cover is as silly
as driving without 3rd Party -
join Bicycle NSW for PL insurance, so that all Muggs
are better protected
Ø
Click on:
Risk
Management
which warns of 'inter alia', the dangers of cycling on public roads
with motor cars,
potholes and over bridges with vertical timber planks with gaps
Ø
Cycling with
Muggs is predicated upon notifying
Bank
Teller if you materially disagree with
any clause(s) in Muggaccinos'
"Ride Participants Liability Acknowledgment"

Rap up of beaut, bucolic, rustic
'Ride Around
Riverstone' - 95km - 5 starters
Scribe's
rap-up of
Sutherland to Ruby's
Cafe Bulli, return thru RNP - 13 riders - 103km 'cause
Jean aka ChiliDog,
Tony aka Yorky
and
Bill aka Glasgow
returned the reverse route which is a tad longer than up thru RNP - and endured
a frightfully chilly rainstorm. Five of us 'wossed-out' by catching the
train from Thirroul
You got to hand it to
Greg aka
ArchitectToo for attracting two
talented 'femme' cyclists, who can match it with the best, to this annual
mid-year Muggs' ride to
Ruby's Cafe
which is normally awash with 'brill sunshine', but not today.
Generally, our dozen or so previous visits to
Ruby's Cafe,
the weather has been 'marvie'. Our next
Nosh Stop there
won't be 'til
Muggs 11th Annual KOM Challenge in Nov where we camp at
pristine
Berry Showground,
which is an excuse for
'an 8 days long binge' for some, albeit après some
frightful climbs (eg Fountaindale Rd, Saddleback Mtn, Saddleback Mtn Rd, Cambewarra Mtn Rd
from Bomaderry, Cambewarra Mtn Rd from Kangaroo Valley, Barrengarry Mtn to
Fitzroy Falls, Berry Mtn Rd, Woodhill Mtn Rd, Jamberoo Pass to Robertson
'et al' during the day.
Almost the same pic as above, however,
Chris aka RecalcitrantBankTeller squeezed in on the LHS in this
pic
"Take One" at
Ruby's Cafe
(only one crew paying attention, the rest all squawking 'highly important'
twaddle)
"Take Two" at
Ruby's Cafe
(no one paying attention)
"Take Three" at
Ruby's Cafe
(maybe one rider is paying attention)
Everyone paying attention, 'cause we had prevailed
upon another guest to take this pic
Jean aka ChiliDog
and Bill aka Glasgow
- kind of 'preparing to re-mount' |
Scott aka PatternMaker
climbed Stelvio in training for
Muggs' Tour de Italia Alps in August
Whilst 5 Muggs took an 85km
stroll to/from Riverstone last Saturday of the long w'end,
Scott aka PatternMaker
scaled Bowen Mountain 8 times.
This segment
http://app.strava.com/segments/828227
shows the ascent of Bowen Mtn
starting at 178m
(above sea level) up to 421m (above
sea level) is 243m vertical elevation
@ ave 9%. 243m
x 8 ascents = 1,944m
vertical elevation.
Stelvio from Prad is 24km, 1,828m vertical elevation @ ave
8%. This is 7½ ascents of Bowen Mtn.
http://app.strava.com/segments/951992
1/3 of the way up, 16.6km, 1,488m @ 9%. This is 6.1 ascents
of Bowen Mtn.
http://app.strava.com/segments/1614765 .
Scott's message to the 5 other starters for the Dolomites and
Ortler Alps this August is: "If you plan to scale Stelvio from Prad you have to
achieve these numbers. Less bitching & whining & more riding & training!"
