Rap-up of Tour de Palm Beach  -  12 starters, counting PacificPete who missed the start, and upon finding no Muggs at Whale Beach Cafe 'U turned' to pig-out at Avalon Cafe

On a clear brisk morn' which clouded up a tad, Harry aka KayakMan, Greg aka ArchitectToo, Arno aka The Kaiser, Kerry aka Miner, Rex aka MediaMan, Peter aka Campy Aficionado, The Whippet, Adam 'n Ann-Marie rolled out of St Ives at 8:30am with Harry having started way earlier from Seven Hills.  TJ aka Samurai linked-in at Terrey Hills Fruit Barn.  Trev aka Tornado picked-up the peloton 'en route'.

Tony, Kerry, Arno & Rex peeled-off at the round-a-bout just past Cabbage Tree Rd, opting to turn back and visit Akuna Bay where they met Glen.  They had coffee at the Terrey Hills Café and then split again.  Arno & Rex rode back through Bobbo.  Rex, who has a fixation to always eclipse 100km accompanied Arno to the Pac Highway and then came back through Bobbo clocking up smack on 100 clicks.  Rex had got his jollies!!!

Returning to the main bunch who continued to Whale beach, alas the Whale Beach Cafe was in mid-Winter hibernation mode, 'cause it hadn't opened when the front-markers arrived shortly après ten bells, so consensus decided upon taking the scenic route to Palm Beach where a reduced contingent of six put the nose bags on

PacificPete missed the start, and upon finding no Muggs at Whale Beach Cafe, Pete 'U turned' to pig-out at Avalon Cafe which re recommends.

After social squawking, and with full bellies, the gang headed back.

PS:  Born Again, Scribe, scored some brownie points with the Great White Cloud by attending a family church service to commemorate the tenth anniversary of the passing of his late father.  Phil reckons his Dad was a super bloke and a lot like him, although not all his dad's qualities flowed from father to son, 'cause his Dad was considerate, communicable, decent and diplomatic.

Whippet's rap-up of his early participation in last Sunday's ride from St Ives

Hi Phil,

Thank you for your phone chat last night.

I rode up Ryde Rd yesterday (Sunday) morning to St. Ives to meet up with Muggs.  I learnt that the Banker was seeking redemption for a life of sinning.  Harry, Arno, Adam & Eve, a few others rolled out of St Ives on time.  We collected Samurai at the Fruit Barn and Trevor joined-up down McCarrs Creek Rd.  As I've bemoaned before the northern beaches roads are not friendly to bikes. Going down McCarrs Creek Rd I was passed by Muggs fast guns, which was fine, then two 4WDs barged past with oncoming cars forced to brake coming up the road.  Perhaps I am gun-shy these days, but I won't forget the month I spent in RNS on my back with a 'Halo Brace' screwed into my head in traction, I was rotated by a team of five every 4 hours day & night, I was then discharged to my home because I was then capable of rolling off my back in bed but I spent most nights reclined in a chair in front of the heater, due to the dangers of electrocuting myself using an electric blanket with all those metal bolts sticking out of my rusting noggin.

10 congregated during a fleeting Sag Stop at Church Point, where the group dispersed, half went on. Arno, Samurai +2 others came back through Akuna Bay. Having started from Ryde, I came straight up McCarrs Creek road to get home around 11.15am to get my washing in before the storm, 65 km & buggered.  I met up with PacificPete who had started a tad late.

An influencing factor in joining yesterday's ride was to show you my new FSA 38t chainring on my front chainring which renders a small benefit on steepish hills - 2.56% when in my 27t on the back to be precise.  I stayed on the seat up "Nasty Little Hill'" into St. Ives on my way home.

These days, I'm no match for the speed of Arno, Trevor, Samurai 'et al' both up hill & down dale even though Arno was on a steel frame bike like Publican's Graycross but still very quick. However, I still love cycling with like-minded people, even if I have to be oh so careful, particularly on the descents.

NB:    Publican and I invariably meet-up at Hookham's Corner each fine Wed morn' usually around 8:30am this time of year and cycle to Mt White, if anyone is interested on a Wed morn' ride.
