Sunday, 4 Nov '07 - Tour de Windsor, Freeman's Reach, Nth Richmond, Lowlands, Cornwallis

Choice of cycling all the way from Turramurra station or Dural or Hornsby to Windsor in i)(a) and ii)(a) or iii) below.

Or starting later and catching the train from Seven Hills or Riverstone respectively in i)(b) and ii)(b) below.

i)(a) rollout Turramurra 7:20am cycling all the way to Windsor via M2 (7:35am from Vimiera Rd, Marsfield), Epping Rd to new entrance to M2, then M7 departing at Quakers Hill Parkway, then follow Western train line to arrive at Macquarie Square Windsor at 9:45am for 1st Nosh Stop (30 min). Thence afore-mentioned 36km anti-clockwise loop, thence Iron Horse to Seven Hills, M2 to Turra' - 110km - ETR 2:45pm; or

i)(b) rollout Turramurra between 8:20am and 8:30am via Vimiera Rd, Epping Rd, M2 to arrive at Seven Hills station by 9:36am to catch Iron Horse to Windsor arriving at 10:20am for 5 min cycle to Macquarie Square. Thence afore-mentioned 36km anti-clockwise loop. Catch 12:55pm Windsor train to Seven Hills station arriving 1:27pm. Cycle 24km cycle back to Turra' station - 83.1km - ETR 2:45pm; or

ii)(a) Porter's Lookout, Dural by 8:05am to cycle 35km to Windsor to arrive at 9:45am for 1st Nosh Stop (30 min). Thence 36km clockwise loop north. Thence Iron Horse from Windsor via Kenthurst Rd, Annangrove Rd to Riverstone, cycle back to Dural along Annangrove Rd - 98km - ETR 2:15pm

ii)(b) Porter's Lookout, Dural by 8:50am 23.7km via Kenthurst Rd, Annangrove Rd to arrive Riverstone station by 9:55am to catch 10:08am Iron Horse to arrive at Windsor at 10:19am then 5 min cycle to Macquarie Square. Thence 36km clockwise loop north. Thence catch 12:55pm Iron Horse from Windsor for 11 min train ride to Riverstone arriving 1:09pm.
Pedal 23.7km to Dural via Annangrove Rd - 84.2 km - ETR 2:15pm

iii) Hornsby station rollout 7:15am 52km via Galston Gorge and Pitt Town Rd arriving Macquarie Square Windsor at 9:45am for 1st Nosh Stop (30 min)

Ø No trackwork on Western Train Line to/from Windsor

Ø Take care at the 'on' and 'off' ramps on M2 - cars coming from behind often travel faster than they seem to be

Ø Expend 5 min studying your street directory for the 36km clockwise loop from Windsor, Freeman's Reach, Richmond Lowlands, Cornwallis, returning to Windsor

Ø Don't ride two abreast on single lane roads with an unbroken centre line

Ø Cycling without Public Liability cover is as silly as driving without 3rd Party -
join Bicycle NSW or Bike Vic for PL insurance, or upgrade your household policy to include PL beyond your front fence, so that all Muggs are better protected, 'cause if you cause a serious accident it could cost you upwards of $1m in PL claims by the injured party

Ø When passing a fellow Mugg, always provide a metre clearance. If you can't, or are
passing on the inside, you MUST call out loudly eg. "passing inside tight" etc

a) Details of the two alternate 1st Legs to Windsor which use a train to shorten the 1st Legs
i)(b) above detailed below:
From Turramurra station car park via M2 to Seven Hills station, thence train to Windsor station – 22km:
Rollout Turramurra station between 8:20am and 8:30am up Rohini St to Pac H'way, R at lights and 40m later L for steep descent of Kissing Point Rd. shortly crossing Comenarra Parkway at lights and proceed to descend cycle path, Browns Waterhole, followed by a short steep climb to M2. Pedal through a narrow 20m tunnel and Sag Stop (3 min) before joining M2 on south side.
Take extreme care passing on and off ramps during 12.2km on M2 to where Old Windsor Rd meets Abbott Rd and continue 1.4km W along Abbott Road. Continue 700m W along Prospect Highway to Seven Hills station on LHS, entering via Terminus Rd to Seven Hills station to catch the 9:50am train in a frontish carriage [joined by cyclists which commence from Dural at Riverstone station. Arrive Windsor at 10:19am and cycle 5 mins to Macquarie Square.

L Nth up Old Northern Rd for 1.2km,

R into Pellit Lane which soon veers L for 180m,

where, after purchasing a snack at the Riverstone Milk Bar meet the Turra' brigade in a frontish carriage on the
10:08am train Sag Stop (11 min on train) which arrives Windsor at 10:19am then 5 min ride to Macquarie Square.

Bank Teller's rap-up of Quatre Montagnes - 9 cyclists - 110km or 91km
(Samurai, Wellington, Navigator, The Kaiser and I.T.Nerd overcame the arduous 165km Fitz's Classic, Canberra)

We got Spring 'n Summer within a few hours, Our ride north from Hornsby from 7:15am was delightful as evidenced by the crisp low cloud in Berowra Valley around 7:30am. The below two pics are the LHS and RHS Zoom-ins of the above pic.

What a shocker of a pic (above) at Mt White after 35.5km with dazzling sunshine intruded by stark shade - hardly doing us justice.
Kerry aka Miner and Leigh "chucked a Uie" by heading directly back to Hornsby. Princess Caroline, Pete, ToothFairy and Bank Teller headed SW via Berowra Waters for 91km.
Lawyer, Pimpernel and ArchitectToo toiled Nth to Peats Ridge for a 110km "out 'n back".
However, with in a few mins of exiting Mt White, the air dried out 'n warmed-up, annoying flies flew-in on the NW breeze, albeit high cloud tempered the temp a tad.
