Risk Warning

Ø   Do not cycle over the metal girders on the ramp at the Berowra Waters ferry, 'cause you will come down hard, like many before you if you try to cycle over any of the longitudinal steel beams.

Ø   Descend Les Montagnes real slow on wet or damp roads.

Ø   Hardcopy these directions and bring on Sunday

Ø   Expend 5 min studying your street directory for this route, if you haven't ridden it before

Ø   Don't ride two abreast on single lane roads with an unbroken centre line and descend corners on wet roads as though you are skating on ice

Ø   When passing a fellow Mugg, always provide a metre clearance.  If you can't, or are passing on the inside, you MUST call out loudly eg. "passing inside" etc

Some forms of cycling are dangerous.  An ave of 36 Australian cyclists have been killed annually since 2000.  95% of these fatalities occur on the road

Other cyclists in Australia break bones and incur nerve impairment from falling off their bikes in accidents.

A cyclist could fall from his/her bike, inter alia, due to -
(i)      being hit by a car or another cyclist; or
(ii)     encountering a pothole;

(iii)    cycling too fast on a wet downhill where the coefficient of friction is much less, particularly at corners; or
(iv)    getting their bicycle wheel caught in a gap in a timber bridge.

A negligent cyclist could -

(a)    be litigated by a seriously injured cyclist, or 3rd party (ie. a woman pushing a pram on a footpath or a car driver) under common law where the damages could exceed $500,000; and

(b)    lose his/her home if he/she did not have public liability insurance which covers their negligence whilst on a push bike.

A negligent cyclist who did not have personal injury insurance (ie self-employed without income protection cover) could struggle to meet regular outgo commitments.

A seriously injured cyclist could be awarded damages which a negligent cyclist could not afford to pay if the negligent cyclist -
(I)     did not have public liability insurance cover; and/or
(II)    did not possess valuable assets.

Ĝ    Cycling without Public Liability cover is as silly as driving without 3rd Party -
join Bicycle NSW for PL insurance, so that all Muggs are better protected

Ĝ    Click on: Risk Management which warns of 'inter alia', the dangers of cycling on public roads with motor cars, potholes and over bridges with vertical timber planks with gaps

Ĝ   Cycling with Muggs is predicated upon notifying Bank Teller if you materially disagree with any clause(s) in Muggaccinos' "Ride Participants Liability Acknowledgment"

Pics from 8th Berry KOM Challenge where 26 camped and another 5 riders either caught the train or drove for a day ride or hob-knobbed it in an "expensive motel", or stayed in the cheap pub like PapaBear

Karen aka Kaza (Official Photographer and Entertainment Concierge), who was one of the first to arrive in Berry and one of the last to leave, with 13 KOM Climbs "under her belt" and importantly climbing all 11 KOM Climbs, which incl the arduous Wattamolla to Woodhill Mtn with 1.1km of uphill off-road, was the undisputed Muggs' King of the Mountain for 2011.  Eric aka PapaBear also completed all 11 KOM Climbs from Monday to Sunday inclusive.  Bank Teller 'pulled a heart-string' on the final day to miss the 2nd easiest KOM Climb up Cambewarra Mtn from Bomaderry.

David aka CricketTragic, Andrew aka Scallop and Gareth showed enough form to suggest that we may have a new KOM King, Queen 'n Kurfoops for the 9th KOM Challenge in Nov 2012 from Sunday 12th Nov '12 to Sunday - 8 days climbing.

Under the prevailing Li Nina weather pattern, Muggs' 8th sortie to Berry was punctuated by a few afternoon thunderstorms, something that we didn't experience under the influence of the previous El Nino during our initial 6 KOM Challenges.  Fortunately the two Humdinger thunderstorms were from mid-arvo, after our morning hill climbs were all done, and the green horse sheds offered respite from the SouWester

Andrew G is confident of producing a commemorative T-shirt @ $10 circa each for Muggs next Berry KOM Challenge which lists 'inter alia' the below 11 Climbs:

  1.       Woodhill Mountain from Berry
  2.       Woodhill Mountain thru
Wattamolla from Kangaroo Valley
  3.       Cambewarra Mountain from Bomaderry
  4.       Cambewarra Mountain from Kangaroo Valley
  5.       Berry Mountain from Berry
  6.       Berry Mountain from Kangaroo Valley
  7.       Jamberoo Pass
  8.       Macquarie Pass
  9.       Saddleback Mountain Rd to Saddleback Mountain Lookout entrance
10.       Fountaindale Rd to Saddleback Mountain Lookout entrance
11.       Barrengarry Mountain to Fitzroy Falls

Below are Route Maps and Elevation Profiles for two beaut, bonza trific new rides for our next Berry KOM Challenge in Nov 2012, where our booking for 8 days is already confirmed.

We peak at 788m at Fitzroy Falls aprés a long slog from Albion Park station up Macq Pass, thru Robertson which should please PapaBear.

Following a train ride (or drive) to Kiama, only one narstie, but what a narstie up Fountaindale Rd to Saddleback Mtn peaking @ 435m from almost sea level,
thence a 'leisurely lumpy lark'  thru Kiama Heights down to Gerringong to aboard a train back to Berry

Muggs' 2nd Bulli Xmas/New Year Challenge offers other beaut climbs, incl the horrendous Mt Kembla Ridge to Mt Keira, plus two marvie cafes down the road at Bulli Beach.
