Scribe’s rap-up of last Monday Bellbird Hill 'n Bowen Mtn - Two Killer Climbs ride - 96km - 6 starters

Six cyclists met-up at Richmond station at 9:30am on a sunny early Spring morn' - 30 mins later than scheduled due to Bank Teller faffing around at the Turra' start, whereupon TugBoat and NewChum, Ashley aka FuturesTrader, missed the 8:20am train from Seven Hills station by a hare's breath

The Kaiser, Printer and Adam patiently waited for our three Turra' starters at Richmond station overlooking the majestic cricket oval.  We then tackled the fearful 5.85km Bellbird Hill which finishes off with the precipitous 900m ascent of Warks Hill Rd.

Arno had a "life-awakening" (scare the shit out-of-ya) experience on the descent down Bellbird Hill along Bells Line of Road.  The Kaiser was travelling about 50km/ph on a steep switch-back when all-of-a-sudden, a canon-fire BANG resonated.

Fortunately, the BANG was due to Arno's back wheel (NOT FRONT WHEEL) blowing.  Either due to good luck or good management, Arno managed to pull his trusty treadley up in a relative flash which wasn't an easy manoeuvre as Heineken was travelling at circa 50km p/h. Adam and Scribe were near Arno when the BANG went off.  However, it took each of them another 75m to roll to a halt, which exemplifies Arno's skill to control his bike when confronted with a fast acting flat on a corner at speed.

15 mins later after trying to fit a replacement tube in a stuffed tyre, Adam 'n Scribe adjourned to Sassafras Cafe in Kurrajong Village with Arno 'phoning Sarah for a lift. Alas, the delightful Sassafras Cafe has become a tad trendy for smelly cyclists, so we restricted our order to much needed drugs (caffeine) and soaked up the sunshine in the pleasant courtyard.

Arno, Matt and Adam had already packed-in a tough 90km route from Hornsby, having departed at Sparrow Fart.  Due to missing the train from Seven Hills, and the lost time due to Arno's stuffed tyre, Ashley opted to bolt back home to his wife and two young daughters.  Hence, t'was only TugBoat 'n Scribe who conquered the steep as all shit Bowen Mtn.

A fun day for all 6 who challenged the toughest ride on Muggs' Toughest Dozen shortlist.  Arno proved his supremacy up the killer Bellbird Hill, although the poor bastard missed the 2nd climb.

Below pics are TugBoat resting against the KOM for the Bowen Mtn ride, namely Cnr Lieutenant Bowen Rd and Bellbird Cres. And lower RHS - the famous Bunyip tree at the adjoining KOM park, 100m past the KOM summit.  Them there Bunyip trees are something only to be found out Kurrajong way, which is another reason to attend this annual Ball-Tearer on the Monday of the Oct long w'end in '07.

Scribe’s rap-up of last Saturday Tour de Royal National Park - 94km - 3 cyclists

Only 3 starters on a coolish Spring morn' which seemed to be plagued by headwinds with a cool Southerly blowing.  Greg and Auckland also included the short diversion to Garie Beach with a killer climb from sea level.
