Bank Teller's rap-up of Sunday 30 Jan Tour de Windsor - 131km - 15 starters
A marvelous 131km hit-out to Windsor with 4 KOM Climbs, plus a cruel little bugger from Cattai Creek and that nasty short squeeze up Wylds Rd to Grumpy’s. 15 participated which included three cyclists from Big Foot who have registered some lightning times in www.KOMpm.com – Paul D. aka PD, Mary Fein aka Piglet and Anthony Darr aka Blinkers (who bears a close resemblance to French climber, Richard Virenque). The Big Foot brigade peeled-off at Galston Park whereupon BeanCounter, Adam ‘n Eve, Bank Teller, Yamaha, Samurai, John aka Auckland and Koala Bear headed for Windsor via Pitt Town Rd. Samurai ‘n Yamaha got put-off by a highland mist around Dural and tossed in the towel. After 66km with a few damp patches, the rest of us arrived at Windsor and met-up with Whippet, ToothFairy, Lynda, and Whippet’s daughter, Jan, who recently returned from completing her PhD at Oxford. The nosh and table service at Lynda’s Café in Macquarie St left nothing to be desired, particularly from the shapely brunette who looked after our every culinary need. After a 30 min pig-out, and arriving at the familiar bus shelter on Old Northern Rd, ToothFairy peeled-off twds Dural and the rest of us hammered up the two remaining KOM Climbs:
Upon returning for a well-earned Ginger Beer at The Corner Café Nth Turra’, Bank Teller elucidated to Koala Bear that the reason he enjoys cycling so much is “the wonderer feeling one gets when you finally return to the carpark, and you dump your bike in the trunk and anticipate during the drive home - a well deserved Power Nap. Koala Bear retorted that he wouldn't be game to return home from cycling all day and tell his wife that he was off for a nap. Scribe 30 Jan 2005 |
