The 12 members of Team NOVA had to train to complete the arduous 42km Boston Marathon. The level of endurance/fitness to run 42km would be comparable to cycling the hilly 200km Audax Alpine Classic. However, training to withstand running 42km without injury would require longer to build up leg, groin, stomach and back muscles to cushion 42km of pounding, than to ride up to 200km on a bicycle because cycling is non weight-bearing (no pounding), whereas jogging patently is. This explains why some of the 12 runners in Team NOVA experienced chronic ankle and knee injuries, which is obviously not desirable, however, it does highlight how the prospect of you, as a volunteer participant will be prepared to push through the pain barrier if you are going to be profiled on international RTV. The tenure for 50 Volunteers, some Disabled and Disadvantaged, to train for Two Legendary Endurance Cycling Challenges in the Primary Research Programme would be 10 months commencing no later than 1 April 2012 because of the increased logistics of Administering 50 Volunteers, as opposed to 12 volunteers in Team NOVA. The 7 months to the 1st Legendary Endurance Cycling Challenge at end October 2012 in Canberra would enable the greater proportion of the 50 Volunteers to opt for the longer 165km Fitz's Classic and shorter 105km Tharwa Challenge, and in the case of some Disabled Volunteers the 49km Tidbinbilla Challenge. The 10 Months Tenure Of Primary Research Programme would also evidence a greater percentage of the 50 Volunteers plumping for longer course distance options available in the 2nd Legendary Endurance Cycling Challenge. Bearing in mind the high percentage of Disabled and Disadvantaged Volunteers, the Business Plan Developer opines that 10 months would be long enough for at least 20 of the 50 Volunteers to train for the maximum distance event options of 165km Fitz's Classic and 200km Audax Alpine Classic provided the maximum temp in Canberra on Sunday, 28 Oct '12 and Bright Vic on Sunday 23 January 2013 (event dates) did not exceed say 28o. If it is an unseasonably hot late-October in Canberra's foothills, or Bright Vic suffers another really hot late-Jan day, Volunteers would need to reduce the distances they attempted. In the case of Bright Vic, the 2nd Legendary Endurance Cycling Challenge would be cancelled if the max forecast max temp exceeded 38o. The 200km Audax Alpine Classic has never been cancelled due to the forecast max temp exceeding 38o, but due to Climate Change, there would be say a 4% chance of such a cancellation, as at least one day each January, 38o is achieved. It was cancelled a week beforehand in 2005 due to extensive bush fires in NE Vic.
