Or start opposite Berowra station @ 7:55am reducing the route from 66km to 55km.  Option to catch Hornsby train (Platform 1) @ 7:37am arrives Berowra station @ 7:50am.

Ride Organiser: Phil aka Bank Teller  0434 715.861 [1st Acceptor] is starting from Berowra at 7:55am after catching Hornsby train north at 7:37am - arrives Berowra at 7:50am.

1st Leg:  Hornsby to Mt White Road Warriors Café - 35km (115 min)

Rollout 7:30am from Hornsby train station car park [70m N of the Railway Hotel in Jersey St – N/W side of train station] for 500m Nth then L and 20m later R at lights onto Pacific H'way.

Or start from Berowra at 7:55am after catching a train from Hornsby at 7:37am.

Continue N up Old Pacific H'way for 1st Nosh Stop from 9:25am (30 min) at Mt White Road Warriors Café.

 

Second Leg:  Mt White Road Warriors Café  to Woy Woy Fisherman's Wharf  - 31km (95 min)

9:55am -

  • R Nth up Old Pac H'way for 6.2km to Calga Interchange around 10am; 

  • R East to Gosford “Scenic Route”, remaining on Old Pac H'way, to intermittent sounds of chirping Bellbirds, crossing Mooney Mooney creek 4.1km later;

  • Aheadclimb 6.1km and take a 1st Sag Stop (5 min) at the Wisemans Ferry/Gosford roundabout below Somersby Industrial Estate - keeping well to LHS; and

  • R L Nth for 600m on Wisemans Ferry Rd;

  • Descend Wiseman's Ferry Rd for 3km to large traffic lights

  • R for 7km along Brisbane Waters Rd to Woy Woy Fisherman's Wharf arriving 11:30am for 2nd Nosh Stop (40 min).

12:10pm pedal 200m to Woy Woy train station arriving 12.20pm for train at 12:37pm (or 1:14pm) arriving Hornsby 34 mins later.

Risk Warning Some forms of cycling are dangerous.  An ave of 36 Australian cyclists have been killed annually since 2000.  95% of these fatalities occur on the road. 

Other cyclists in Australia break bones and incur nerve impairment from falling off their bikes in accidents. 

A cyclist could fall from his/her bike, inter alia, due to -
(i)      being hit by a car or another cyclist; or
(ii)     encountering a pothole;

(iii)    cycling too fast on a wet downhill where the coefficient of friction is much less, particularly at corners; or
(iv)    getting their bicycle wheel caught in a gap in a timber bridge.

A negligent cyclist could -

(a)    be litigated by a seriously injured cyclist, or 3rd party (ie. a woman pushing a pram on a footpath or a car driver) under common law where the damages could exceed $500,000; and

(b)    lose his/her home if he/she did not have public liability insurance which covers their negligence whilst on a push bike.

A negligent cyclist who did not have personal injury insurance (ie self-employed without income protection cover) could struggle to meet regular outgo commitments.

A seriously injured cyclist could be awarded damages which a negligent cyclist could not afford to pay if the negligent cyclist -
(I)     did not have public liability insurance cover; and/or
(II)    did not possess valuable assets.

Ř    Cycling without Public Liability cover is as silly as driving without 3rd Party -
 join Bicycle NSW for PL insurance, so that all Muggs are better protected

Ø   Hardcopy these directions and bring on Sunday

Ø   Expend 5 min studying your street directory for this route, if you haven't ridden it before

Ø   Don't ride two abreast on single lane roads with an unbroken centre line and descend corners on wet roads as though you are skating on ice

Ø   When passing a fellow Mugg, always provide a metre clearance.  If you can't, or are passing on the inside, you MUST call out loudly eg. "passing inside" etc

Sunday, 17th Dec '23 - Ayres Rd/Mona Vale Rd, Nth St Ives to Akuna Bay, via Duffy's Forest.  Thence via Illawong Bay back to Nth St Ives - 5 riders - 49km

Assembled in Ayres Rd, Nth St Ives on time

Our first visit to quaint Akuna Bay in many a month or more, or perhaps a year or more

Hornsby to Brooklyn Pier and back up to Pie in the Sky.  Then Home James and don't spare the horses.  -  11 cyclists - 53km
