Pics from 2018 Boxing Day ‘catch-up’ – 12 riders – 74km

Monday, 26 Dec 2022 - 21st Annual Boxing Day 'Catch-up' for Erstwhile Muggs

Ride from Hornsby street front carpark by 7:20am 24km due Nth on Old Pacific H'way to arrive from 8:10am at Coffee Kiosk at The Estuary Waterfront Seafood Restaurant - Kangaroo Point, 1420 Pacific Hwy, Brooklyn - 200m Nth of the Brooklyn Rd turnoff on RHS of Old Pac H'way.  Thence retrace 24km = 48km

Risk Warning

Ø   Do not cycle over the metal girders on the ramp at the Berowra Waters ferry, if you opt to cycle off the ferry, 'cause you will come down hard, like many before you.

Ø   Hardcopy these directions and bring on Sunday

Ø   Expend 5 min studying your street directory for this route, if you haven't ridden it before

Ø   Don't ride two abreast on single lane roads with an unbroken centre line and descend corners on wet roads as though you are skating on ice

Ø   When passing a fellow Mugg, always provide at least a metre clearance.  If you can't, or are passing on the inside, you MUST call out loudly eg. "passing inside" etc

Some forms of cycling are dangerous.  An ave of 36 Australian cyclists have been killed annually since 2000.  95% of these fatalities occur on the road

Other cyclists in Australia break bones and incur nerve impairment from falling off their bikes in accidents.

A cyclist could fall from his/her bike, inter alia, due to -
(i)      being hit by a car or another cyclist; or
(ii)     encountering a pothole;

(iii)    cycling too fast on a wet downhill where the coefficient of friction is much less, particularly at corners; or
(iv)    getting their bicycle wheel caught in a gap in a timber bridge.

A negligent cyclist could -

(a)    be litigated by a seriously injured cyclist, or 3rd party (ie. a woman pushing a pram on a footpath or a car driver) under common law where the damages could exceed $500,000; and

(b)    lose his/her home if he/she did not have public liability insurance which covers their negligence whilst on a push bike.

A negligent cyclist who did not have personal injury insurance (ie self-employed without income protection cover) could struggle to meet regular outgo commitments.

A seriously injured cyclist could be awarded damages which a negligent cyclist could not afford to pay if the negligent cyclist -
(I)     did not have public liability insurance cover; and/or
(II)    did not possess valuable assets.

Ø    Cycling without Public Liability cover is as silly as driving without 3rd Party -
join Bicycle NSW for PL insurance, so that all Muggs are better protected

Ø    Click on: Risk Management which warns of 'inter alia', the dangers of cycling on public roads with motor cars, potholes and over bridges with vertical timber planks with gaps

Ø    Cycling with Muggs is predicated upon notifying Bank Teller if you materially disagree with any clause(s) in Muggaccinos' "Ride Participants Liability Acknowledgment"

The annual climb up Old Bathurst Rd on Christmas Eve (24 Dec 2021) evidence one of the five in below pic remain on the train to Blaxland and not alight at Emu Plains station

Hornsby to Woy Woy, via Mt White - 65km - 5 riders

We were joined at Fisherman's Wharf by Ann's brother who hails from The Lakes District in England

Hornsby to Mt White - 70km - 5 riders

With a Highland Mist 'dripping' at Mt White at 7:10am, we opted to avoid the drop to Galston Gorge, but rather head Nth on the Old Pac H'way.
BankTeller's
'no-doze' kicked in over the 19km from PitS to win the final sprint.

Annual New Year's Day ride from Sutherland to Nth Wollongong - 59km - 4 riders, although three riders cycled some more clicks

BankTeller, ToothFairy, Glasgow and PapaBear at Pie In The Sky

Ann aka ToothFairy recently returned from cycling 7,320km thru seven countries (listed above).  Ann cycled 360km in the initial three days. Her longest day was 180km.

Most participant riders rode two or three countries, but only two riders cycled the entire route, both ladies.

Within 50 years, women will be ruling the world, and males will be reduced to the role of the 'male bee'.
Presently, the Prime Minister of England, Chancellor of Germany and Prime Minister of NZ are women, so is the Premier of NSW and Qld.
We might not have endured two World Wars, with 71m fatalities, had women taken control a hundred years ago.

Immediately before the 6.7km climb up Mt. White is Cherro Point Rd on the RHS.  Muggs riders have collectively cycled past Cherro Point Rd over 2,000 times over the last 21 years.  Today BankTeller wandered into the 1.7km Cherro Point Rd and took a few pics.

Hornsby, Berowra Waters, Galston Gorge, Bobbin Head, thence backroads to Hornsby  - 61km - 3 riders

It was a pristine, late Winter morn', although the Saturday traffic was appreciable greater and less friendly.  The variety of food in the Galston Gourmet Deli and their prices are 'beaut'.

Next time we will sit in the Bus Shelter, cause it was hard standing back up for Ann and BankTeller.

Nth Turramurra via Bobbin Head to Mt, White and return  -  92km  -   9 riders, although Jean aka ChiliDog 'bailed-out' at Pie in the Sky
