Risk Warning
Ø   Hardcopy these directions and bring on Sunday

Ø   Expend 5 min studying your street directory for the 22km 2nd Leg from Kariong Shell garage to Pearl Beach

Ø   Don't ride two abreast on single lane roads with an unbroken centre line and descend corners on wet roads as though you are skating on ice

Ø   When passing a fellow Mugg, always provide a metre clearance.  If you can't, or are passing on the inside, you MUST call out LOUDLY eg. "passing inside" etc

Some forms of cycling are dangerous.  An ave of 36 Australian cyclists have been killed annually since 2000.  95% of these fatalities occur on the road

Other cyclists in Australia break bones and incur nerve impairment from falling off their bikes in accidents.

A cyclist could fall from his/her bike, inter alia, due to -
(i)      being hit by a car or another cyclist; or
(ii)     encountering a pothole;

(iii)    cycling too fast on a wet downhill where the coefficient of friction is much less, particularly at corners; or
(iv)    getting their bicycle wheel caught in a gap in a timber bridge.

A negligent cyclist could -

(a)    be litigated by a seriously injured cyclist, or 3rd party (ie. a woman pushing a pram on a footpath or a car driver) under common law where the damages could exceed $500,000; and

(b)    lose his/her home if he/she did not have public liability insurance which covers their negligence whilst on a push bike.

A negligent cyclist who did not have personal injury insurance (ie self-employed without income protection cover) could struggle to meet regular outgo commitments.

A seriously injured cyclist could be awarded damages which a negligent cyclist could not afford to pay if the negligent cyclist -
(I)     did not have public liability insurance cover; and/or
(II)    did not possess valuable assets.

Ø     Cycling without Public Liability cover is as silly as driving without 3rd Party -
join Bicycle NSW for PL insurance, so that all Muggs are better protected

Ø     Click on: Risk Management which warns of 'inter alia', the dangers of cycling on public roads with motor cars, potholes and over bridges with vertical timber planks with gaps

Ø     Cycling with Muggs is predicated upon notifying Bank Teller if you materially disagree with any clause(s) in Muggaccinos' "Ride Participants Liability Acknowledgment"

Scribe's rap-up of Tour de Windsor  -  7 cyclists  -  99.5km from Turra'

Meeting up at the base of the Pennant Hills Rd on-ramp on time at 8:45am on a corker of a late Winter's morn' which got warmer 'n warmer

Pickings were scares from the left-over Big Breakfasts at The Bridge Cafe, but Seagull still managed to snavel the slice of tomato in the above pic - far right.  Like a good Seagull, he waited until the person who had ordered  the meal had moved-on, but not by much incase he was beaten to the punch.

Ann aka ToothFairy was elated but whacked following her ostensibly flat 37km ride from the Pennant Hills Rd on-ramp.  Fortuitously, Caroline's parents happened to be in Macq Sq Windsor and provided Ann a lift back to her jalopy at Pennant Hills.  A Thank You note from Ann is below.

"Thanks to Muggaccinos" from ToothFairy

Last Sunday, 23 Aug 2009, was just over a year since I got out of hospital, after four months and four hospitals to put Humpty Dumpty back together again.

It was marvelous to join some of the team last Sunday and ride out to Windsor amidst glorious sunshine!  I felt I was finally “getting back on the horse”.  Phil had assured me that our route along the M2, M7, Quakers Hill Parkway, then tracing the Western line to Windsor was “flatish”.  But there were quite a few micro hills and undulations which were a bit of effort for my reconstructed kneecap.

I was most grateful to the group going slow for me, waiting for me and making sure I made it to Windsor in one piece.  Caroline’s parents were kind enough to bring me and my bike back in their car which was muchly appreciated after 37km back in the saddle.

I again thank you all so much for the support and good wishes since my accident; while in hospital I received visits, cards, letters and flowers and lots of ‘phone calls from Muggs and they all kept me going and got me back on my feet and the bike.

We share a common passion in road cycling.  However, the common bond of friendship and mutual respect which can foster and develop from enjoying a recreational sporting activity together, further drove me to want to recover and climb back on that pony.

I am still ongoing with physio and hope to improve to soon tackle some of our regular hills again.

Thank you all and happy cycling!
