Positive Stressors means something we feel, at least in the psychological sense, that it is in our control and generally happy and proud about, not limited to the following:

  1. The birth of a baby

  2. An upcoming wedding

  3. Being promoted at work

  4. Buying a new home

  5. Purchasing a new vehicle

  6. Meeting a new partner

  7. Reuniting with lost relatives

  8. Training for and achieving challenging physical goals which can produce powerful Adrenalines and Endorphins and materially increase self-belief

The above initial 7 Positive Stressors are not easy to replicate as often as some would like.

Re 8. above, for all but the last scintilla of Homo sapiens 125,000 years tenure on 'terra firma', Homo sapiens -

(A)       led an exceedingly physically active life hunting or farming - otherwise s/he couldn't feed their family the next meal - exercise was integral to human survival, particularly as 'hunting' often involved running down faster animals due to man's greater stamina than the faster animal that s/he was chasing for the next meal; and

(B)       had a diet of one type of meat, two or three vegetables and two or three fruits - generally prepared the same 'local way' day after day - many survived on fish or rice.  There were no refrigerators, supermarkets or motor cars to take the plentiful foods sourced from a plethora of cultures home which are available today (ie. Chinese, Thai, Mediterranean, French, Italian, Greek, Lebanese 'et al').  Hence, it was not as easy for a human to over eat relative to their fuel requirements.  Due to the Western World's patent wealth and food transportation capabilities, this is no longer the case.  Many humans are consuming far more fuel than their bodies require with resultant Type 2 Diabetes because of the diverse array of foods available relative to what our Homo sapiens ancestors enjoyed, and what many Africans presently do not enjoy.

Combating Life's Negative Stressors With Regular Positive Stressors notes that in this electronic, automotive age where physical exercise is often optional, setting regular physical challenges, ideally with friends or other local residents (ie. entering annually fun runs and training for them, hiking expeditions, swimming laps in order to complete in annual surf club beach swims, kayaking/canoeing, cross country skiing, bicycle rides) can provide an enormous fillip through enhanced Wellbeing and self-belief to offset the Negative Stressors in life, and also create a Local Community Common Bond Support Group.  Better to cross-train, say Soccer or Basketball in the Winter and 'touch football' or swimming in the Summer, to mix 'em up.  As focusing on only one exercise, say running can itself bring on a Negative Stressor itself, if a knee or foot injury presents, whereupon the jogger can suffer withdrawal symptoms when his/her 'fix' is unavailable.
