Defined Terms and Documents      'Aboriginal Teenager Life Skills' RTV Social Inclusion Early Intervention Programme

Aboriginal Culture, Spirituality And Beliefs means the values of the particular aboriginal tribe that the Accepted Year Aboriginal 9 Student grew up in (its tribal government, respect for land, respect for women, and influence of Western intervention).

Aboriginal spirituality and beliefs are inextricably linked to land, “it’s like picking up a piece of dirt and saying this is where I started and this is where I’ll go. The land is our food, our culture, our spirit and identity.”  Dreamtime and Dreaming are not the same thing.  Dreaming is the environment the Aboriginal people lived in and it still exists today “all around us”. None of the hundreds of Aboriginal languages contains a word for “time”.

Aboriginal Culture, Spirituality And Beliefs is one of Three Speech Topics in the 5 Minutes Speak Off as part of the Year 10  Mixed Teams' Public Speaking Challenge.

Accepted Year 9 Aboriginal Students notes 'inter alia':

  1. At least 40% of the 140 Accepted Year 9 Aboriginal Students (56 Accepted Year 9 Students) would be full-blood Aboriginal Heritage.  At least a further 40% of the 140 Accepted Year 9 Aboriginal Students will enjoy at least one quarter Aboriginal Heritage Ipso facto, at least 80% (at least 112 Accepted Year 9 Students) will possess manifest Aboriginal Heritage.

Hence, the speech topic of Aboriginal Culture, Spirituality And Beliefs from amongst the Three Speech Topics would be available to at least 80% of the of the 140 Accepted Year 9 Aboriginal Students.
