The New
Millennium / A
New Choir
Director
When it’s
founder & leader
of 32 years, Rex
Harris decided
to retire, the
year 2000
brought a new
dimension to the
choir with a new
choir director.
Warren Barnett
was appointed to
the position
with great new
ambitions
culminating in
the release of 3
popular Album’s,
a CD single & an
extremely
successful World
Tour in 2008.
Having spent the
past 30+ years
performing with
the choir,
Warren stepped
back from the
choir director
roll in 2009,
but continues as
a consultant for
the choir.
Friend of the
choir &
accomplished
vocal arranger
Bromwyn Morphett
has stepped in
as interim choir
director in lieu
of a permanent
replacement
being appointed
in mid 2009.

Peter

The late &
legendary Peter
Allen holds a
special place in
the heart of
GVYC as it was
asked to sing
with Peter for
his
international
recording hit “I
Still Call
Australia Home”.
He was so
impressed that
he personally
invited the
choir to perform
with him on
stage at the
“Royal Charity
Concert” held at
the Sydney Opera
House in the
presence of her
majesty Queen
Elizabeth &
Prince Philip in
1980. This
concert was
televised
nationally & the
choir was
presented to the
Queen following
the performance.
A prestigious
gold record
award of the
recording was
presented to the
choir from Peter
Allen’s record
company Festival
Records.
