Gestational Diabetes means a form of diabetes that develops during pregnancy in some women.  It involves high blood sugar levels appearing for the first time during pregnancy among women who have not previously been diagnosed with other forms of diabetes.  It usually disappears after the baby is born; however, it can recur in later pregnancies.  It is also a marker of increased risk of developing Type 2 Diabetes later in life.

Some cases of Gestational Diabetes are managed with changes to diet and exercise alone and some may require insulin treatment.
