FAST PACE RIDE, WITH FIRST AND ONLY NOSH STOP AT
PIE IN THE SKY AFTER - Ø Ride Organiser: Phil Johnston 9114.6689 0434 715.861 Ø Hardcopy these directions and bring on Sunday Ø Click on: Risk Management which warns of the dangers of cycling on public roads with motor cars, potholes and over bridges with vertical timber planks with gaps, and to cycle much slower at corners on descents on wet roads Ø Cycling with Muggs is predicated upon notifying Bank Teller if you materially disagree with any clause(s) in Muggaccinos' "Ride Participants Liability Acknowledgment" Ø When boarding and alighting the Berowra Ferry, take particular care not to cycle over the metal rails on the cement ramps which can be very slippery Ø Don't ride two abreast on single lane roads with an unbroken centre line Ø Cycling without Public Liability cover is as silly as driving without 3rd Party property cover. Join Bicycle NSW or Bike Vic for P.L. insurance, or upgrade your household policy to include P.L. beyond your front fence, so that all Muggs are better protected, 'cause if you cause a serious accident it could cost you upwards of $1m in P.L. claims by the injured 3rd party Ø Cyclists from the primary/longer departure point of Nth Turramurra do not pass the shorter journey Hornsby departure spot - usually meet them ascending Galston Rd or when passing Andy's Cafe Nth Galston on route to Berowra Ferry.
1st Leg: Nth Turra' 61km or Hornsby 46km to Pie in the Sky
¨
Longer Ride -
Cinque
Montagnes [94km]
¨
Shorter Ride -
Trois
Montagnes [65km] Route now becomes common for both start points. NNW thru Hornsby Heights and descend to Galston Gorge and climb 3km to Crosslands Rd. Then left for 1.1km and Right at roundabout around 7:45am into Arcadia Rd for 4km to Wylds Rd, passing Andy's Cafe around 8:25am.
Nth along Galston Rd/Arcadia Rd which changes to Bay Rd at pastoral Berrilee,
where a few km later after passing the familiar Koppers Log KOM descend to picturesque Berowra Waters for our
1st Sag Stop
(10 min) - ride on the punt.
Right remaining in Berowra Waters Rd passing Berowra Pool Shop for 1.8km to Pacific Highway Left into Pacific Highway at 10:15am and cycle Nth past Cowan station and Pie in the Sky before descending to 'U' turn at Brooklyn Rd before climbing 3.85km back to Pie in the Sky at 10am for our 1st Nosh Stop (30 min).
2nd Leg: Pie in the Sky to Hornsby 19km or Nth Turra' shops - 31km 10:30am commence return home 17km Sth down Old Pacific H'way - ¨ enter Bobbin Head for 14km to Nth Turra' - ETR 11:55am; or ¨ continue Sth for 2km to Hornsby - ETR 11:30am. Bank Teller's rap-up of Tour de Windsor from Hornsby - 94km - 3 cyclists Mindful that two cyclists, PacificPete (Amen Corner on descent to bobbin Head in 1998) and Sig aka Smiling Assassin (The Wall on clockwise descent to Cottage Pt, Illawong Bay, Akuna Bay in 2005), have previously been carted-off in ambulances after descending too fast on wet roads, our descent of Galston Gorge on a greasy road surface was the only scary part.
Bank Teller turned L off Kenthurst Rd onto Annangrove Road which led to the (newly refurbed) Windsor Rd enabling a 13km flat easy peasy entrance to Windsor. Trevor and Justine remained on Kenthurst Rd and turned L onto Pitt Town Rd which takes about 20 mins longer, but they reckon the rustic route was worth it. Macq Place Windsor was like a ghost town, although the lass who served us at The Bridge Cafe said Good Friday had dragged a crowd. We returned via Cattai Ridge Rd where the 300m section just after the timber bridge crossing continues to need a fresh layer of bitumen. We live in hope. Instead of Kevin 07 giving cash to buy plasma TVs from China, why can't we fix roads like that patchwork of ad hoc laid bitumen blobs at Cattai Ridge Bridge.
Andy's Cafe, Nth Galston wasn't a bubbling throng of activity either. Scribe 12 Apr '09 |
