TugBoat’s rap-up of Tour de Macarthur - 9 cyclists (counting Toby 'n Scribe who didn't get out of the carpark, 'cause Phil forgot the front wheel of the tandem) - 108km
What a ride! A great time was had by all today; sun shining, birds singing and quiet country roads to cycle on. At our first Nosh Stop at Cobbitty Café Patisserie, Cobbitty Chief Baker, Herve, was waiting eagerly for us and was indeed disappointed to learn that "the big man who put our photo on the internet" was not with us. TugBoat snapped a shot of the pastries on display to remind you of what you missed at the bestest Nosh Stop on the Muggs' Cafe Calendar. Herve made me promise to convey his heart felt thanks to Bank Teller for promoting his shop to fellow cyclists.

All went well until about 45km. While powering up a steep incline Anthony's arm warmers fell out of his pocket and lodged in his rear derailleur, bringing him to an abrupt halt, really abrupt. He went "arse over" the handlebars landing on his head, cracking his helmet and breaking his rear derailleur clean off. A more graphic reason to wear a helmet could not be witnessed. Anthony had to withdraw from the ride, however to our immense relief, Anthony was able to walk away and radio the support vehicle to collect him. Just by chance Anthony's tumble happened outside the house of a wonderful family the TugBoat knows and they kindly let him and Angelo wait there for the pick-up. A lesson to us all, "make sure that anything in your pocket is secure", and a chain breaker and connecting link would have come in real handy. After this mishap and the late start we decided to skip the 11km Oakdale loop and head straight to Picton from The Oaks. The rest of the ride was uneventful apart from Ann simply flying up the hills on her new carbon treadley.
