[mailto:jetienne1@bigpond.com] Phil, Very keen to take part in the Tour de Conquer as I have not been to this part of the world. Like David, I intend to camp. I must say that I am disappointed that Eric hasn’t committed to all 14 days climbing. My finances dictate that I can’t take this sort of a hol every year, so my goal is to climb them all, as they don’t appear much different to the climbs from Berry and the schedule that Phil and Eric has worked out seems to get us back at our camp by mid-afternoon. What is all the fuss? Hills are hills, the same the world over. Our camps are higher altitudes than Berry at sea level, but Le Sommets don't appear to high, as we don't seem to get above 2,642m at the Le Col of Galibier which is roughly 8,600 feet. Phil reckons that he has climbed above that height lots of time in the USA. Certainly, there are 1,930m of vertical elevation, but Col du Galibier seems the exception and I won't be turning around at Le Télégraphe. Another tuffy is the famed My Ventoux, where we climb 1,622m to a peak of 1,912m. But there are lots of much easier days and we get to "re-fuel" at night. Cheers |
