ABC Current Affairs - NSW

700 Harris St,

Ultimo NSW 2007

Dear Sir or Madame

Four YouTube's of motor bikers on the Old Pacific Highway (north of Cowan) evidence that police patrols are ineffective in deterring -

*        dangerous/reckless motor bike driving; and

*        some motor bike owners are breaching exhaust noise emission levels

Will 'ABC Current Affair - NSW' read my -

*        First Letter to the NSW Police Commissioner dated 3 Sept 2017; and

*        Second Letter to the NSW Police Commissioner dated 23 Jan 2018?

Will 'ABC Current Affair - NSW' read my -

*        First Letter to the NSW Minister for Roads dated 3 Sept 2017; and

*        Second Letter to the NSW Minister for Roads dated 23 Jan 2018?

The NSW Police are not deploying the latest methods to cost-effectively deter motorists and motor bikers from speeding

It is incumbent upon all public servants, civil servants, regulators, politicians etc. to expend the public purse cost-effectively - discrete photographic speed detection and noise measurement technology is available.  Why isn't it being deployed to save lives?  The stakes are too high.

If the road speed limit was reduced from 80km p/h to 60km p/h on the 3.85km roadway from Brooklyn Rd to The Pie in the Sky Cafe and speeding and noise excess fines were posted out, the problem would be solved 'quick smart'.

The Writer, Philip Johnston, has administered an endurance, recreational road cycling group, Muggaccinos.com, for 21 years.  Several of Muggs' Sunday road rides depart from Hornsby heading north up the Old Pacific Highway to Mt. White Road Warriors Cafe.  He, and other Muggs' stalwarts, have witnessed in the last couple of years something that we never anticipated and did not evidence in the initial 18 years' of Muggaccinos.com 100km ave. Sunday road bicycle rides on the perimeter of Sydney.

A stretch of 3.85km roadway from Brooklyn Rd to Pie in the Sky Cafe (4km north of Cowan train station) on the old Pacific Highway has become a motorcycle speedway (on fine weather weekends), as patently evident in the four YouTubes contained in the Writer's  Letter to the NSW Police Commissioner dated 3 September 2017; doubtless now the most dangerous 3.85km of public road in NSW.

Since the Writer posted his DVD to NSW Police Commissioner on 3 Sept 2017 that beseeched Mick Fuller to place discrete speed cameras and sound measurement equipment to appraise the magnitude of the recently manifested 'madness' along the 3.85km roadway from Brooklyn Rd to The Pie in the Sky Cafe, two more motorcyclists (click on below newspaper articles) have died due to reckless speeding up or down the 3.85km bendy road section from Brooklyn Rd to PitS, as they strive to chalk-up a P.B. or be photographed with sparks flowing from the metal knee caps on their knees whilst passing through the most acute corners.

Malcolm Jenkins, 45, killed in motorcycle crash on Old Pacific Highway on Sat, 23 Sept 2017 at Cowan - Daily Telegraph

18 year old male dies in motorcycle crash near Cowan NSW on Sat, 20 Jan 2018 - The Australian

Approx. one hour before the 19 year old driver died last Saturday on the above-mentioned 'most dangerous 3.85km of public road in NSW' on fine weather  weekends, Peter aka CampyAficinado and the Writer, Phil aka Bank Teller, were cycling back from Hawkesbury River up to Pie in the Sky Cafe.

We pulled into a park about 200m north of Brooklyn Rd, then -

1.        Peter aka CampyAficinado telephoned Gordon Police Station; and

2.        the Writer, Phil aka Bank Teller telephoned Hornsby Police Station.

Both Peter and I  -

(a)       had evidence earlier that morning reckless and dangerous motor cycling driving on the Old Pacific Highway near Pie in the Sky Cafe; and

(b)       alerted the police officer (that we each spoke to) that more police patrols are required over the 3.85km roadway from Brooklyn Rd to Pie in the Sky Cafe

Approx. one hour after our 'phone calls that beseeched the police to increase their physical presence along the 3.85km roadway from Brooklyn Rd, an 18 year old motor biker rider died whilst descending the 3.85km roadway from Pie in the Sky Cafe.  I telephoned Hornsby Police station on both Mon 22 Jan and Tues 23 Jan seeking confirmation that the fatality last Sat occurred on this 3.85km roadway.  Neither police officer that I spoke to knew.  One told me to approach 'freedom of information'.  I telephoned Pie in the Sky Cafe 9985.7018 on Monday 22 Jan and the young chap who answered said that he believed that the fatality last Saturday occurred on the 3.85km roadway down from Pie in the Sky Cafe.

On Tues, 23 Jan, I spoke to Hornsby Advocate journalist, Jake McCallum, who was driving up to Pie in the Sky Cafe from Brooklyn Rd and was about to meet witnesses to last Saturday's motor bike fatality.  I undertook to email Jake pertinent info.  I again spoke to Jake at 1:34pm on Tues 23rd Jan who informed that the fatality occurred around 100m south of the Helipad on the 3.85km roadway down from Pie in the Sky Cafe.

I can provide you with the 'phone numbers and names of lots of recreational road cyclists who have cycled on Muggs' rides that are now loathed to cycle anywhere near Pie in the Sky Cafe on after say 9am on weekends.  As the old photos evidence, Pie in the Sky Cafe used to be frequented by lots of road cyclists, yet now PitS is swamped with motor bike riders intent upon riding 'loops', faster and faster.

Separately, Sydney man jailed for eight years over cyclist's death on highway near Cowan - ABC

"A witness described Smith telling him after the incident that he hit Mr Jarvie and he deserved it.

Smith had previously written about his dislike of cyclists on social media and had been seen abusing cyclists."

I welcome you contacting me because 'inter alia', "It is incumbent upon all public servants, civil servants, regulators etc. to expend the public purse cost-effectively - discrete photographic speed detection and noise measurement technology is available.  Why isn’t it being deployed to save lives?"

However, in light of the above-mentioned death of 61 year old road cyclist, Steve Jarvie, due to motorbike driver, Ben Smith, pushing Steve Jarvie off his bike at Cowan, I wish this source's identity, namely me, to be protected from disclosure.

Yours sincerely

Philip Johnston aka  Bank Teller
