·         Scott aka PatternMaker's favourite climb days (Unanimously voted "Champion and Ironman" in 2013 TdeC):

      From Bourg d'Oisans

     1.         L'Alpe d'Heuz / Villard Notre Dame. One of my favourite days' ever in my entire action filled life. An old mining track cut into the cliff overlooking Bourg d’Oisans, you can even see our cabin in the valley below. Look across and you can see the 21 famous hairpins. Through a few tunnels and overhangs, it has a real country feel.

     2.         La Grave to Col du Lautaret to Col du Galibier  We had to abandon at Col du Lautaret because the weather turned 'powerful cold and wet' (silly us for not checking the weather forecast as our descent was scary), but one of the 'signature rides' from Bourg to complete the 'double'.

     3.         Mont-de-Lans / Les Duex Alpes / Col de Sarenne - a tough day at the office.

      From St Jean de Maurienne

     1.         Lacets de Montvernier, Chaussey, Madeleine. The Lacets are the hidden jewel, better that Alpe dHuez. (Google it to believe it) Then venture on roads cut into cliff faces onto a great little café at Chaussey before climbing another monument the Madeleine. The descent back to La Chambre is fantastic. 20km of wide smooth roads, not a peddle stroke barely needing to touch the brakes, it is a hoot.

·    2.         Mollard onto Croix de Fer. This is a ride split in three.  First ride up through the forested hills, great for shade on a hot day. Then it opens out onto green open pastures with cows & chalets, making me think of Switzerland. Keep climbing past the treeline into the rugged, rocky scape of the high alpes to Croix de Fer. Make sure you kiss the Iron Cross!

·    3.         Iseran. Sure it is a 50km car ride to the start but we do this on Mt Annan rides. When you are so close to this ride it would be a travesty to miss. At 2,770m. it is the highest in the area, even topping Galibier. The scenery is to behold, simply stunning. You seem to be on top of the world, seeing forever. At the base there a few old fashioned townships that time seemed to miss.

·    4.         Telegraphe and Galibier. It is the legendary monster that must be climbed. It climbs up into a harsh yet beautiful lunar scape. You get the bonus of conquering Telegraph & Lautaret from the other side also.
