Seniors 'Go for your life' Initiative

Seniors ‘Go for your life’ formerly known as Healthy and Active Living for Seniors initiative supports active living by seniors.

Being physically and socially active promotes good health, and helps to maintain mobility, independence and a good quality of life. Participation in recreation and leisure activities also allows older people to be socially active and interact with the local community.

Since 2003 the Government has committed nearly $6 million to the Office of Senior Victorians to increase active living by seniors through a range of initiatives including:
  • Promotion of physical activity and social participation for older people

  • Information for older people on how to be active

  • Support for older people to become and remain active

  • Activities that provide exercise and social connection for older people

The Office of Senior Victorians manages the Seniors 'Go for your life' initiative, which is part of the Victorian Government’s Health and Active Victoria strategy and Linked page opens in a new window Go for your Life campaign.

In 2006 the Office of Senior Victorians completed a mid term evaluation of the Seniors 'Go for your life’ initiative. The evaluation report (PDF 1.2mb) identifies a range of success factors. An Executive Summary (PDF 98kb) of the mid term evaluation is also available.
