This
is an information pamphlet outlining the key components of the
Heartmoves program. Heartmoves aims to develop and implement a
sustainable exercise program, to address the specific needs of people
with existing CVD or risk factors for CVD. This intervention was
designed through a consultative process with key stakeholders in the
health and fitness sectors with components designed to address the
identified barriers to participation by the ‘at risk’ group in fitness
centre programs. Heartmoves also includes specialised training and
accreditation course for fitness leaders, Heartmoves leader resources,
workshops and through marketing such as seniors Expo and direct
promotion to GPs.
Heartmoves target group includes
older Australian adults and particularly those who either have or are at
risk of developing heart disease or diabetes.
The results of the evaluation of
the Heartmoves program suggests that Heartmoves has the potential to
become a core program within the fitness industry, but more importantly
provide an influential building model for safe, appropriate and
accessible physical activity resources to the local community.
