Sunday, 12 Dec  -  Tour de Hawkesbury Heights, Springwood, Mitchell Pass

Turramurra by 7:10am via M2 to Seven Hills station, Iron Horse to Richmond, Yarramundi, Springwood, Mitchells Pass, Emu Plains, Blacktown, M2 to Turra' - 90km - ETR 1:10pm

Ø    Hardcopy these directions and bring on Sunday

Ø    Expend 10 min studying the street map to familiarize with the below 2nd 'n 3rd Ride Legs

Ø    Bring a hardcopy of this and Ride Description at 90km in 'Ride Calendar 2004 - Oct to Dec'

Ø    Ride two abreast on single lane roads at own peril and get off the road at Sag Stops

Ø    Cycling without Public Liability cover is as silly as driving without 3rd Party -
 join Bicycle NSW for PL insurance, so that all Muggs are better protected

Ø    When passing a fellow Mugg, always provide a metre clearance.  If you can't, or are
 passing on the inside, you MUST call out loudly eg. "passing inside tight" etc

Commence by 7:10am from the snotty North Shore suburb of Turramurra and after 22km (3.7km on Kissing Point Rd, 1.45km thru Browns Water Hole, 17km on M2/Abbott Rd/Prospect Highway) arrive Seven Hills station to climb aboard 8:29am train. Arriving Richmond at 9:10am. 
Challenging 41.4km anti-clockwise loop, SW up Hawkesbury Heights to Yarramundi for our 2nd Nosh Stop at Springwood.
Descend mountain incorporating scenic section along Mitchells Pass to Emu Plains station to catch train back to Blacktown station followed by 24km cycle back to Turra' station.  -  ETR 1:10pm.

a)      1st Leg: Turramurra station car park via M2 to Seven Hills station, thence train to Richmond station – 22.4km:
 

            7:10am 60m up Rohini St to the H'way and R at lights.  50m later L at lights into Kissing Point Rd.  Commence step descent then cross Comenarra Parkway at lights.  Ahead to end of Kissing Point Rd.  R fork onto cycleway path to Browns Water Hole (caution steep decent with sharp turns, causeway flooded when it used to rain hard) followed by  300m steep climb to M2.  Pass through a narrow 20m tunnel and Sag Stop (3 min) before joining M2 on south side.
Pass 2 on and 2 off roads, cycle 14.2km to Old Windsor Rd intersection, where M2 becomes Abbott Rd.
Ahead 1.4km along Abbott Road to Johnson Ave lights.
Ahead 700m along Prospect Highway to Seven Hills station on LHS, enter via Terminus Rd. 

2nd Leg:  Richmond, Yarramundi, Springwood -  25.7km

After 35 min Nosh Stop at Old Post Office Shoppe café Springwood, its down the mountain, including a beaut one-way section along Mitchells Pass to Emu Plains station:

4th Leg: Alight train at Blacktown station to Turramurra station carpark - 26km

 

    Alight at Blacktown station.

  • R into George St for 400m,

  • L into Sunnyholt Rd for 800m,

  • R into Sackville Rd for 1.2km

  • Ahead in Lucas Rd for 1.4km

  • L into Prospect H'way for 400m

  • Ahead at Johnson Ave traffic lights into Abbott Rd/M2 (take extreme car as lots of traffic proceed leftish along the Prospect H'way, and one of those Red Necks could wallop ya!)) for 15.6km,

  • L at Optus Tower down/up Brown's Waterhole for 1.8km,

  • Ahead up Kissing Point Rd for 3.7km

  • R into Pacific H'way for 250m

  • Left into Rohini St for 200m

  • Left into Turramurra station carpark.

ETR Turramurra station 1:10pm.

 

Bank Teller's rap-up of Tour de Spencer, Iron horse from Wyong - 126km

 

Aborted after only 10 min when Ian Maguire was unfortunately hit from behind by a motor bike about 400m before Brooklyn Rd - final stages of 3.85km descent from Pie in the Sky.  Ian was cycling at about 40km p/h positioned about 2' in from the left hand side of the left hand lane.  Whilst Ian's bike was smashed into several bits, Ian is in reasonable condition and hopefully he will return to cycling in about 7 or 8 weeks after a fracture in his hand and deep gashes heal - although his wrist and lower back are painful.  Ian will understandably be "gun-shy" or more specifically "motor-bike shy".
