200km Audax ride on Sunday, 28 November

If you'd like to learn more about Audax Australia and the burgeoning band of Aussie endurance cyclists training for PBP, Chris Walsh (02) 9924.2200 walshes@optushome.com.au invites you to a fast and scenic official/accredited 200km Audax Ride on Sunday, 28 November, starting at Lindfield station at 7am (sign on from 6:45).

Brief Route Description:
Lindfield, M2, M4, Springwood, Winmalee, Richmond, Cattai, Glenorie, Berowra Waters, Brooklyn, returning to Hornsby station

Detailed Route Description:
North along the Pacific Highway, then west along Lane Cove Rd to the M2.
Follow the M2 to its end and follow signs leading to M4 (the traffic is no problem at that time of a Sunday morning).
Take M4 west all the way and exit at Springwood. This is a checkpoint for those electing to qualify for an Audax brevet.
East along Hawkesbury Rd (this crosses Great Western Highway via a bridge at Springwood) and descend the hill through Winmalee to Yarramundi and thence to Richmond.
Follow the main road to Windsor.
Right at Windsor Rd then left at Pitt Town Rd. This heads north towards Cattai.
Right into Halcrows Rd and follow this all the way to its intersection with Old Northern Rd.
Right (south), then left into Wylds Rd.
Usual route to the Berowra Waters Ferry and climb the other side thence to Old Pacific Highway.
left (north) to Brooklyn. This is the second checkpoint for the Audax brevet.
Climb back up the hill, thence back to Hornsby and fall onto the train (those doing a brevet ride should get their card signed off at the police station - they are used to us by now).

Forecast Ride Time:

Fast riders can complete this ride in 8 hours or less but most randonneurs will spend a bit of time relaxing along the way and finish in between 9 and 11 hours.

There are plenty of bail-out points on the ride - Springwood, Richmond have railway stations and you can always turn south instead of north at Berowra.  However there are long stretches where there are no shops or support so riders should make sure they have two bidons, plenty of food and adequate spare tubes etc. A roadworthy bike goes without saying!

Contact Chris if you wish to participate:
Could those doing a brevet ride ($5 Audax members, $7 non-members), please let Chris know
(02) 9924.2200 walshes@optushome.com.au well in advance of the ride.

Brevet riders must comply with Audax club regulations and carry lights and a reflective vest.

Kaza, Yamaha, Adam, Heineken, Samurai, Printer and Tornado might be interested.

http://www.audax.org.au/calendar.asp  lists Chris' ride, but it is incorrectly shown as Sat, but Chris has moved it to Sunday 28 Nov.
