Sunday,
16 Mar, 7:20am from St Ives “Whale Beach Restaurant for
Brekkie, Akuna Bay cafe for Brunch” - 87km - ETR 1pm
-
Ride
Leader: Phil Johnston
- 9498.3684 hm
The
final section of our
route to Whale Beach is different to previously, as after approaching Mona
Vale, we cycle via Newport Arms/Clareville/Careel Bay to avoid a tight
section of Barrenjoey Rd thru Bilgola Beach, so hardcopy this
"Ride Direction", and spend 5 mins reviewing your UBD.
Weaker riders may opt to ride our old route on the main beach road [Barrenjoey Rd]
past
Bungan, Newport and Avalon beaches, which is much flatter.
Cycle
two abreast on single lane roads at own risk
Keep well to LHS
of the road and get
off the road at Sag Stops
-
Don't
cross 3 lanes of traffic at lights at McCarrs Creek Rd back onto Mona Vale Rd.
Rather return
along Larool Rd, or use the tunnel under Mona Vale Rd

Scribe's rap-up
of last Sunday, 9 Mar, Loop the Lake - 85km
For
the umpteenth year on the trot, the Loop the Lake organisers snared
another brill Autumn morn' with a dozen cyclists which have ridden with Muggs
over recent months participating - incl. Ellie-May, Gene Autry,
Dark Horse, Katrina, Kiwi Mike, Malvern Star, Waratah,
ToothFairy, Pacific Pete, Scribe, Tony J. The Saturday campers at
Morisset were joined by two interesting cyclists who might join a few Muggs'
rides in the future - Tom A, who rode a fixed-wheel [only one gear ratio
13/44] around the lake and Jim. Maria and Ross were also circuiting
somewhere, but couldn't track 'em down.
All-in-all,
another fun w'end sortie to the lake 3 times the size of
Sydney Harbour. But Mike reckons that we'll pick another
camp ground next year, 'cause the noise form the freeway kept him up
drinking all night, but it didn't inhibit him hammering around the 85km circuit
the following morn'.
