Bank Teller's rap-up of 2nd "Linger 'n Die" ride to the Upper Hunter, Fri 9 Nov to Sun 11 Nov - 9 participants
Muggs' three day 2nd sortie to the Upper Hunter proved a marvelous success for the 9 participants - Welsh Widget, ToothFairy, Nurse Karen, Whippet, Tornado, Kiwi Mike, Pacific Pete, Bank Teller 'n Kitchen Sink.
The o'cast weather on Fri/Sat was pleasant and not overtaxing, but the pace set by Tornado, Whippet, Kiwi Mike, Nurse Karen and Kitchen Sink proved intimidating for mere mortals like Brenda, ToothFairy, Scribe and Pete. Although it did encourage 'em to scurry along! After Nosh Stops at Mt White and Kulnura, and the occasional Highland Mist, we arrived at enchanting Wollombi early arvo. Most of the gang were bunking at Cody's Cottage, managed by Jean - a charming, or is that charmless, Old Boiler. Right on the death, Brenda 'dumped and ran' from her good buddies to the confines of 'History and Pageantry' at historic Mulla Villa, where ToothFairy and Pacific had booked. Or was it for the prospect of a room with hot-tub, that Pete had been spruiking about all arvo? A few of the gang forgot their etiquette and decorum in getting "pickled and pie-eyed" at the enchanting Wollombi Inn that sunset. But these things have been known to happen on a Muggs' w'end. And everyone did 'front and centre' at 'roll call' the following morn'. Day 2 and 3 were wonderful fun, as we pummeled 'up hill and down dale' Nth, skirting the Hunter Valley, in pursuit of Paterson, which, upon arrival, didn't disappoint. A big thanks goes out to Pacific, aka The MapMan, who not only supplied the support vehicle, but provided route maps which, despite our worst efforts to "pay attention and follow Pete's instructions", Pete's maps got us to Paterson on the 2nd night and Morisett on Day 3. Although Ann took the 'long-cut' to charming Morpeth, where we met the tallest cyclist in the world. The 3rd "Linger 'n Die" will likely be Oct '03. We might vary the route after Day 1 and slip in an extra day to once again make it up to Dungog, where the pubs offer cheap lodgings. However, be it 3 days or 4, we will negotiate ⇩ the price of B&Bs and pub lodgings, 'cause -
Planning is 'en train' for Muggs' next w'end sojourn, "Three Blind Mice" Tour de Berry where Muggs' stalwart, Welsh Widget, and her accommodating hubby, Russ, are comfortable about us pitching tent on their 137 acres property at Berry [over a longish w'end] around April or early May '03, to -
If you mused as to where the above-mentioned theme for Tour de Berry stemmed from, ask anyone on L & D who partied at the Wollombi Inn last Friday evening, 'cause a few [triumvirate] of the contingent, incl yours truly, settled into party mode. Scribe 18 Nov ‘02 |
