12:45am - 77km.
Scribe's
rap-up of Sunday, 14 July, Tour de Windsor - 97km After
a beaut warmish Sat, alas Sunday greeted us with a nippy, sunless morn'.
Maria, aka PBP (a Paris Brest Paris 1,200km finisher),
and hubby Alan, aka Monte, joined us from Hurstville. Upon Publican
"getting-a-wriggle-on", we headed down Kissing Point Rd with
Widget 'whinging' 'n whining' that she was too hot in her Kiwi fluffy Winter
jersey. Following the decent to a frosty, but dryish creek at Browns
Waterhole, Brenda might've rued her wailing and been glad for her flannels.
With Publican and BigGears AWOL, it was only Whippet
'n Sputnik to bolster the Peloton at the M2 entrance pickup
point. At
10:35am, after 48.5km - the latter 11km thru rural/rustic "Salem Country",
we met-up with Pacific and ToothFairy who'd commenced from Dural
Info Centre and, after traversing past some mansions in Dural's hill
country had taken the flattish Dog Pound Alley (Pitt
Town Rd) to Windsor. L
to R at Windsor - Whippet, Teller, Publican,
ToothFairy, Widget, Pacific, Sputnik, PBP 'n Monte The
Nth'ly
aspect offered by Aldo's Pizza shop, on the way-in to Thompsons'
Square, scored Muggs' patronage in the hope/expectation that someone
might flick the "On Switch" to the inept Ball in the Sky.
Around 11:15am, ToothFairy rustled us into action for the 49km return-leg
via Cattai Ridge, incl. that dreaded ball-terror climb from the creek. Around
2pm, after we'd bade tar tahs to Ann and Pete, we settled in at GreenShades
for a welcome 2nd Nosh. Our waitress "didn't take an lip
from no one", and was as sharp as a tack - scrubbed-up good too. Sputnik
holding court at GreenShades early arvo L to R - Publican,
PBP, Monte, Sputnik, Whippet 'n Widget
The grub was grouse,
and with ToothFairy's whip not in sight, we got side-tracked and
our schedule slipped. Hence, it wasn't 'till 3:40pm that the Turra' contingent
returned, although Whippet 'n Sputnik still had some clicks to
crunch back to Eastwood/Ryde. Sputnik,
Whippet 'n Publican fought out the Yellow Jersey. PBP and Monte appeared as though they
could go all day, and then some more. But Widget 'n Scribe,
averaging just under 23km/h over the 97km Duo Montagnes sojourn West, had
done good too.
