Bank Teller's rap-up of Sunday, 9 June Brunch at Whale Beach, with lunch at Akuna - 81km - 10 riders After several weeks of suss weather, we jagged a bonza day to soak up the ambience of our Eastern seaboard; coastline from Mona Vale to Whale Beach looked a Corker, as Calm as a Mill Pond. 10 rolled out from St Ives - Whippet, Malvern Star, ToothFairy, Navigator, BigGears, Ellie-May, Bazza 'n his buddy, NewChum Pete 'n Scribe. Pacific Pete joined the caravan at the Fruit Barn.
After a 5 min Sag Stop at Church Point [20km], which also looked a picture, we arrived at Whale Beach Restaurant at 9:40am [35km]. ToothFairy 'n Teller went for the Cholesterol Brekkies, with lots of Googie Eggs, whilst most others opted for more discerning Carbo Charges.
The last two to depart Whale Beach for the 2nd Leg returning back, via Akuna Bay, were Pacific 'n Teller. Still unsure how, but somehow the two RearGuards got ahead of the Peloton. After a reconnoiter on the ubiquitous cell 'phone, the two Snails waited (approaching Bungan Beach) for the Early Birds to catch back up.
Squaw Chores were a callin' ToothFairy, Whippet, Bazza and BigGears who continued back to St Ives. The rest of us turned R at McCarrs Creek and 5½km later took a 2nd Nosh Stop at Akuna Bay. Alas, Pacific's prophecies about the incompetent service from a raft of preening, coquettish, elfin counter-staff at the Akuna Bay Café proved an understatement. But we eventually got served, although we weren't sure what was in Pacific's soup.
Just as the familiar Jazz band was setting up, we vamoosed the sunny, waterside courtyard for the 20km final leg scaling out of Akuna, for the familiar run S/W along Myoora Rd and Mona Vale Rd, incl that "nasty little hill" on the dog-leg left approaching St Ives. Around 1:40pm we returned to our jalopies well satisfied with a colourful 81km sortie on a balmy early Winter's morn'.
Scribe's rap-up of Monday, 10 June Brunch at Berowra Waters - 61km - 5 riders
As this ride was organised only the day before 5 starters was a fair result - Tornado, Teller, Princess Monaco rolled out of Wahroonga Park at 8:33am and picked-up Rock Solid outside Hornsby Pool. It was another fine Winter's morn', however, there was a nip in the air, especially whilst descending both to the Gorge and to our Nosh at Berowra Waters.
Heaven forbid we met another Kiwi South Islander at Berowra Waters. Tyro Mick, who also studied at Uni of Dunedin can also hammer up the hills, so much so that he kept Trev on his metal for the remainder of our 61km Trois Montagnes sojourn. Princess Caroline, Trevor, Rock Solid, Teller 'n Tyro Mick at Berowra Waters where the $8.50 "Sausages, eggs 'n bacon" Breakfast Special is mega value. Looks like a giraffe or sea urchin lurking twds Trev from the shoreline, but its only an optical illusion, 'cause Trev couldn't stayed that cool if he thought he was about to get his ear chewed! Besides Loch Ness monsters are only a myth.
