rap-up of
Sunday, 12 May, Tour de Windsor - 99km Today's ride was the first time we've seen ToothFairy and Julia since they both conquered "Hornsby to Surfers Paradise" in 7½ days solid, unrelenting pedaling and much more of the same. Having cycled it over 10 ride days with 2 rest days interspersed, Scribe has bulk admiration for both resilient women for doing it in 75% of the ride time with no rest days. Pacific Pete also made a re-appearance since his successful two-week cycle tour holiday in Vic. [Bright/Beechworth] where 21 cyclists attended. There used to be a dude on the long running Darryl Sommers "Hey Hey its Saturday". No not that annoying Dicky Knee. I'm referring to Lucky Phil. Well there was another Lucky Phil today who was rewarded for his temerity in asking a perfect stranger, a veritable "real honey" to join in the above pic.
L to R - BigGears, Publican, Navigator, ToothFairy, Whippet, Pacific Pete, Bank Teller, Kiwi, 'n Papa Bear. No prizes for guessing which one is the KGB 'agent provocateur'. [Check those shady eyes on the stout dude - far right.] Approaching 11am, we vamoosed out of Windsor for our 26km 2nd Leg to Galston via Cattai Ridge Rd, and that dreaded short/sharp climb from Cattai creek. After we bombed-out getting a table at GreenShades
'cause it was Mothers' Day, we gathered across the roundabout at the
re-furbed Galston Fish Shop [81km]. After nipping back along the east side of the rail-line, on schedule at 2pm the WorkHorses returned triumphant to Turra' after 98 fun-filled, delightful clicks. True to form, Publican, who'd been glued to Whippet's back wheel the entire day, let out his customary "Thanks for organising the ride Phil!". Scribe 'n Whippet - 14 May 2002 |
