Scribe’s rap-up of Bike North's hugely successful first-up Century Challenge

BN's inaugural Century Challenge proved a winner all-round.  Four Muggs joined Bike Nth to participate in the "teams only event" - Publican, Volkswagen, Denis C aka MudGuards and Andrew C.

Muggs entered three teams:

  • Team 1:  "The Nobodys" - Yamaha, Andrew and Malvern Star

  • Team 2:  "The Somebodys" - Whippet, BigGears and Navigator

  • Team 3:  "Gentleman from Verona" - LabRat, Publican, MudGuards 'n Bank Teller

Blessed with a delightful late autumn morn' about 20 teams took-off from the Wahroonga Park start line from 7:30am at 10 min intervals.

Teller got sacked as captain of the good Gentleman from Verona after he missed the 2nd checkpoint at Galston Park, whereupon -

  • Publican et al missed getting another funny face stamped on his ride card; and

  • the Gentlemen pedaled an additional 4½km along Mid-Dural/Old Northern/Wylds Rds.

Muggs' 3rd string team "Gentlemen from Verona", namely  LabRat, aka Darren ( enjoy a Nosh Stop at Berowra Waters.

Muggs 2nd troika of "The Somebodies" - Whippet, BigGears and Navigator passed the good Gentleman from Verona at Berowra Waters.  When the ferry was shortly offshore “Arrogant Bastard” gave 'em a ‘brown eye’.  Notwithstanding the ghastly sight of Scribe's anus horribilus flashing at 'em, they hammered on cognisant that “No Play”, “Malvern Star” and Andrew were hot on their heels.

Muggs 1st triumvirate "The Nobodys" of Yamaha, Andrew and Malvern Star, loading-up on carbos at PitS.  Never seen three dudes so focused on what they were going to scoff since Guestler devoured snails in that '60s half-hour melodrama William Tell.  [No thought of posing for the pic.]

‘The Somebodies’ cocked-up when BigGears lost his rego card, but rather than head back in search of the useless bit of memorabilia they pedalled on in pursuit of glory.  Nothwithstanding an underdone “Whippet” pulling up with cramps on the final climb from Bobbin Hd, Somebodies limped-on to the last check point on Mona Vale Rd and a well-earned rest at Wahroonga Park.

Several of the crew shooten' the breeze post-ride at delightful Wahroonga Park.

A competent/committed BN working party was responsible for the successful Century Challenge, with Graeme Edwards's precise route/course logistics appreciated.  Congrats in particular to BN stalwart, Doug Stewart, for acting as ride marshall/starter and sending all participants off after a thorough briefing.

Jerseys:

  • The Publican gets the Polka Dot jersey, 'cause after the slagging he suffered at the hands of Scribe's vitriolic 'n malicious diatribe in last week's Bullsheet, Tony kicked Scribe's butt in each of the four climbs.

  • Le maillot jaune to Princess Caroline of Monaco and RockSolid, together with NumberCruncher Fran on her 'bent, for grinding out both the 103km Northern Circle and 57km Southern Circle which finished with that dreaded killer-climb up Kissing Point.
