At French Forest Rd lights we R and 800m later R into Rabbett St. 200m later L into Adams St for a 150m tough climb onto Forest Way. 11.1km later we L into Mona Vale Rd for final 6.2km hit-out to St Ives. ETR 11:45am - 77km. Scribe's rap-up of Easter Sunday, Church Point, Narrabeen, Wakehurst Parkway loop - 55km Despite the best laid plans of mice 'n men, Muggs' rides don't always go to plan. After wet sounds all night long, a 'phone-around at 6:30am agreed that we'd postpone our sortie to Whale Beach for a toffy b'fast at the classy joint on the beach for 24 hrs. Widget, who reckoned it'd been cats 'n doging down all night at Bayview, was happy to put her noggin back under the covers. ToothFairy appreciated the dog 'n bone call rather than drive from Homebush Bay for a No-Go. Whippet agreed to intercept Navigator with an early call. Scribe undertook to drive to St Ives in case anyone was stupid enough, mean optimistic enough, to turn-up on what was shaping to be a dog of a day. So much for logical contingency planning, 'cause 5 of us rolled out of St Ives 10 mins late on a morn' that looked like another dump was imminent - Julia, Whippet, Navigator, Publican 'n Bank Teller, and Pacific Pete joined the caravan at Church Pt. Over the ensuing 3½ hrs, we managed a dry 55km clockwise loop of McCarrs Creek Rd, Pittwater Rd, Wakehurst Parkway, Forest Way, 'n Mona Vale Rd where Brian found us some new hills on the shortcut from Wakehurst to Forest. Apart from a Prick of a Kid, with an IQ less than his tender age, shooting Publican and Teller with an air-gun whilst he and his mates passed us in a jalopy on Pittwater Road, we all had an enjoyable "rain-free" hit-out. But that bloody pellet really stung. Publican who was behind Teller, copped one first and muttered "gethisnumberplate". If he'd yelled "getthearseholesnumberplate", Teller might have twigged, but Teller initially thought that the sting in his right leg must 've been from a stone thrown up from the passing car. It was only when the sting stinged more 'n more, and Publican told Teller why he too was wincing, that Teller's penny dropped. That little shit is lucky Teller is slow on the uptake. With our tongues hangin' out for a fix 'n a feed, and after getting a "we open at 10 o'clock" from a popular drinking hole at North Narra' which Bike Nth frequents, we settled in at Pies OrUs at Sth Narra'. The young surfie serving us at the "beachie ambience" pie joint was pleasant, but consensus from all bar Pacific in the above pic, was that he knew "JackShit" about making coffee. Pacific had opted for a trusty Liptons and couldn't give a tinker's cuss that's we'd be gizumped with Clayton's coffee. Post ride late morn' back at Pattisons Patisserie, Scribe caught up with Michael and Julie, circa Tasmania Ride 1998 and a Fitz's Challenge. [They're the two who gutsed 'emselves whilst their polite friends sipped on MoKadors]. Anybody who's nobody was frequenting the joint, with Hoss 'n other Cyclops similarly suckin' socially suitable stuff at the table behind. Only joshing chaps!
Scribe's rap-up of Easter Monday, Brekkie at Whale Beach - 70km Everything went to plan, albeit a day later than initially scheduled. After rolling out of St Ives at seven bells, 'twas 20km to our 1st Sag Stop at Church Point, and another 15km to Whale Beach, although Widget took us on a "special shortcut" at Mona Vale which had a hill in it, yet Darley St was flat. The brekkie menu at Whale Beach Restaurant 9974.4009ph was bonza, with Lambs Fry 'n Bacon, and Eggs Benedict to name a few. Yours truly went for the latter.
The chap on the far end in the regulation RTA issue rainware had the delightful young waitress thinking we'd cycled from Yobsville when he asked what Turkish bread was. Publican took the above flick on The Serpentine with a misty but fine Bilgola Beach in the background. There ain't no justice in this world, at least Publican doesn't think so. After Widget bade us tar tahs at Bayview we hammered up McCarrs Creek where Rocket Ros and he won in a canter. On the final 6.2km leg back to St Ives, Tony again set up a commanding lead. About 400m back Ros was sitting on Teller's tail as we approached St Ives and he muttered "the only chance we've got to pip the bastard is if he gets caught at the final traffic lights into St Ives". Sure as God made little apples, it couldn't 've happen to a nicer man, with Tony getting snookered with a red light after setting up a 1 min lead. Teller and Rocket eventually hit the lights at full throttle, just as they re-turned green, and Publican could do nothing more but curse the Gods for his misfortune, as PJ gave him the Big Raspberry as he ripped on past him.
