Detailed Spec: ¨
Longer Ride - Cinque
Montagnes [103km] ¨
Shorter Ride - Trois
Montagnes [73km] The route now becomes common for both start spots as riders cycle N/W thru Hornsby Heights to descend to Galston Gorge and climb 3km to 1st Nosh Stop (30 min) at Green Shades Café Galston [9653.1500ph] (10% surcharge) arriving around 8:15am after 30.2km (Turra’). At 8:50am, we commence a new 5.6km adjunct N/W into Glenorie which provides two testing climbs: ¨ turn L heading W along Galston Rd - changes to Mid-Dural Rd for 1.8km ¨ turn R heading N along Old Northern Rd for 2km ¨ turn R heading E along Wylds Rd for 1.8km Thence, we turn L and pedal N along Arcadia Rd that changes to Bay Rd at pastoral Berrilee, where a few km later after passing the familiar Koppers Log KOM we descend to picturesque Berowra Waters for our 2nd Sag Stop (10 min) - ride on the punt. After another enjoyable climb, we take a 3rd @ Sag Stop (10 min) at the former Health Food store, now a thriving Pool Shop, before re-entering the Old Pacific H'way from Berowra Waters Rd. (51.5km) 68.5km) for our 2nd Nosh Stop (30 min). Around 11:15am we commence the return home - ¨ enter Bobbin Head onto Turra' - ETR 12:55pm – 103km; or ¨ continue onto Hornsby - ETR 12:05pm - 73km. Bank Teller's rap up of Sunday, 13 Jan, Yarramalong Manor Iron Horse - 94km Eleven crew rolled out of Hornsby on a coolish mid-Summer's day bound for our 1st Nosh Stop of Mt White – Annie, Widget, Scribe, Richard, Caroline, James, Publican, BigGears, Navigator, Whippet ‘n Pacific. Unlike last week, where a dozen or more were ready to roll before the advertised time, incl Suicide Blonde 'n Whiz, this week apart from Annie jumpin’ the gun, to steal ‘n early lead, only Widget 'n Scribe were present at 6:45am. But within three minutes they’d swarmed in from everywhere. Tyro Richard set a scintillating pace over the 35km to The Village Store leaving Muggs’ usual pace-makers BigGears, Whippet ‘n Navigator in his wake. After only ave. coffees at the Bikie Hangout, and shy of Nine Bells, the gang was pedaling further up the slope in pursuit of Mid-Coast Petroleum and our 2nd Nosh Stop, where even Scribe put in a bit. Around 10:50am after Whippet was unsuccessful in steering The Publican off to Gosford again, we took a R at Springs Rd and after a few Big Dipper rollie pollie inclines, descended a corrugated Bumble Hill. After Richard had taken more than a peek at Bumble's incline, and Widget had done the Cleaning Lady bit by scrubbing the DuckShit from the outdoor furniture, we settled in for lunch at The Manor’s garden setting. An array of regal fare served on fine China was enjoyed by all, although James struggled with his Greens, whereupon Scribe led the Gutter Rats to snavel up the extras. Approaching midday Richard opted to make a dash for the early Wyong train, whilst the rest of us ordered coffees, intent on a long lunch. The final 18km flattish leg thru the turf farms was enjoyed by all, as was the spartanly occupied 1:37pm Express train to Hornsby, which provided the opportunity to scatter our bikes and catch Forty Winks. Alas, the fare is up to $7.80 but worth it. Over the years PJ has forced himself upon many an unsuspecting cyclist to pedal The Muggs. However, low ‘n behold, as we were throwing our cycles in/on our cars, a chap from the Old Dart approached us seeking details of the group. After the usual post-ride schmaltzy cheerios at Hornsby station, we bolted in all directions, although Widget should learn not to push into the traffic flow in her Yuppie Volvo jalopy, but wait her turn to back out. Q.
Why should you never draft behind Widget? Sun 27 Jan, 8am “Northern Beaches and Back Roads” - 70km With the Audax at Bright attracting some, and other long-weekend diversions, gather at Turra’ station car-park from 7:50am, as Muggs link-up with another Bike North ride led by Graeme Edwards 9476.3624(h), titled “Northern Beaches and Back Roads” which rolls out of Turramurra at 8am. via Terrey Hills, Church Point to Mona Vale, then follows the coast to Manly for coffee. However, Muggs will likely depart the contingent at Mona Vale to return via Wakehurst Parkway or Powder Works Rd. The Scribe 'n The Whippet - 14 Jan 2002 |
