Whippet’s rap-up of Sunday 9 Sept, Eastwood, Narrabeen and Surfside Café 80km

On a pleasant sunny morning, Spring had changed the drab colours of winter apparel worn by the 16 riders.  However, those who braved the early start at Eastwood were more rugged-up.  But where was our ride leader, while we were getting cold, delayed by the first flat.  A quick sprint up Ryde Rd, put us back on target for the 8am St-Ives pick-up, Rock Solid, Gentle George, F1-Alain, Temperate.   Pocket Rocket Ros, a trim, taut package whom Whippet had met the previous day was a new starter. (Maria T had a flat and missed starting).  Until the meeting up with the Tortoise Troup, all 14, including Carolyn were seated outside in the dappled sunlight at the Surfside Café before the Hare Brigade arrived around 9.30am, delayed by a second flat, after fording the causeway, while this was being repaired Simond, Doug, Alain, played Musical Tunes,Rock in a Hard Place” on Rock Solid’s rear wheel.  The rest of us including trikes of Keith & Fran dried out from the causeway splash.  Some of us were lucky we’d moved to tables inside as the wind had blown up, Ros had almost turned solid outside in the wait, for French Toast and other Tasty Titbits, washed down with scrumptious MoKador coffee.

The advance party by now had left and the Speed Machines aka Blue Beard (or is Whiskers more apt), Whippet, Temperate, alas Pocket Rocket was cold (not fired up) and on a tight corner came unstuck and had to be transported home by car. We wish her a speedy recovery.  Blue Beard pulled ahead by more than just a Hares Breath from Whippet, Rookie Troy and Trikes on the hard slog up McCarrs Creek, Rd, oblivious to the drama which lay behind, special thanks to Doug, also Rolf who remained with our patient, Ros, until transport arrived.

After a regroup and long delay at Terrey Hills, we made our way back along Mona Vale Rd, (another flat) and ‘twas great to get a cherry wave from (Ros, in car) before St Ives car park, [66km,] Turra’, car park, then down/up Browns Water Hole to Eastwood Station [79km.]

NB:  There’s been a limited response from the Scribe / Raconteur, only a phone message saying he was enjoying things with a mumbled voice, sounded a bit like? The French Riviera, What No Hills?
