Muggaccinos Pedlars Cycle Club - The Bullsheet

1.                  This Sunday, 3 Sept, Tour de Bikie Hangout - Mount White return:

¨                       100kms and four hills from Turra’; or

¨                       71kms and two hills from Hornsby

THE RAINMAN is Sig [‘phone 0407 914.224].

¨                       8am rollout from Turramurra station car park [nth/east side of station in Rohini St] for 50 kms to Mt White, including a brief respite at Kalkari Reserve after climbing out of Bobbin Head; or

¨                       8:40am departure from Hornsby station car-park [nth west side of station - 100 metres north of Railway Hotel in Jersey St] for 36kms to Mt White - although this shorter venue hasn't been popular lately.

Both groups should arrive at our first of two pit stops - Mt White Village Store from 10:15am.

Around 10:45am, we commence the return leg, pulling in at Pie in the Sky at around 11:30am where the ambience from the garden setting overlooking the magnificent Hawkesbury, can be easy to handle – especially if the climb from Brooklyn is fiercely contested.  It is a further 36kms back to Turra’ with an ETR of 1:30pm or 1pm to Hornsby.

2.       PJ’s rap-up of 27 Aug initial daylight savings   Breakfast at Brooklyn on the Pier - 82 kms

About nine riders started from Turra’ incl Marea, resplendent with her brand spankers white, with red GT stripes and bells ‘n whistles, "lotsofdollars" Giant.  Maria T was also re-appearing after a break.  Notwithstanding effectively commencing at 7:30am, the weather was unseasonably balmy.  Suicide Blond Marea almost cleaned up Sig when overtaking him on the initial descent to Bobbin Head.  Think Mark Andrew and ActionMan were first to Kalkari, but wouldn’t put money on it.  Around 10:30am we grabbed a sunny table at the Pier and slipped behind our schedule due to too much chatters.  Backpacker Bruce was the only one not to call into Pie in the Sky as he had a ticket to the RL Grand Final.  Sig did a dumb thing climbing out of Bobbin Head on the return leg by attempting to catch Ian and Mark A only to waste himself something serious when both of ‘em took to burning him off as they approached the pinnacle - that familiar council tolling booth where they extract some bucks from the motorists.  Cutting to the chase Mark Andrew registered the highest ave of 25.6kms, with Flash Ian winning the Maillot Jaune ‘cause he new a short cut home back to the car-park.

Rides

Friday 29 September.

A ride is on offer if you are departing Sydney early on Friday to beat the long w’end rush, however, our hosts have to work.

Saturday 30 September - "Peddle to Port Macquarie" - 70km

Enjoy the return trip to Port, via Bonny Hills and its spectacular ocean views. Rolling hills and the first time you’ll cycle past a camel, Sara nearly fell off the first time she saw the huge beasts.  Lunch at Cascades on the Water - we have been building a rapport here since we arrived up North and management is quite accustomed to a group of smelly cyclists. The food is great too.  For the more adventurous we can organise a camel ride along Light House Beach.

Sunday, 1 October - "The Macadamia Meander" - 90km

Join us on a favourite ride, some beautiful scenery of dairy farms, mountains and forest.  Some dirt road, but pretty smooth, we ride it on road bikes, I HATE dirt but love this ride, both Siggy and Connie can both confirm its ease.  Of course you may have troubles conferring with Connie in Ireland, but Bionic Bum loved the ride to Hannam Vale.  Coffee at The General Store and then on up hills to the real treat, the Macadamia farm. Jo and Ray are expats from the Big smoke and she cooks a mean muffin or lunch. The views from their outside deck across the Lorne Valley defy description, but I’m sure Phil will be able to.  We really are frequent flyers of this ride and eating establishment.

Monday, 2 October - "The Mountain Challenge" - short 'n sharp

Aware that good folks may need to return early to the big smoke to cleanse their lungs of all this sweet air, (of course we could just start the car for you) we plan a short but heady trip. THE MOUNTAIN CHALLENGE.  Five kms of up HILL.....Big Brother Mountain.  Truly fantastic views from the top over the coastal area, down to Taree and up past Port.  That is presuming you are in a fit state to enjoy the scenery.  We must also put in a short trip out to Dunbogan and Camben Head as a 10 km warm up and of course more local scenery we just have to show you.  Be Challenged.

Directions:

Laurieton is situated approx 370kms from Sydney, about 4 ½ hours car journey ( including a short stop and hopefully an easy exit from city traffic).  Turn Right off the Pacific Highway at the Kew intersection driving along Ocean Drive, turning Left at the North Haven/Port Macquarie sign.   A total of 8 kms from the Highway turn off and you’ll see the Laurieton Gardens Caravan Resort on the right hand side.
