MUGGACCINO Pedlars Sunday Cyclists - The Bullsheet 1. This Queen’s B’Day long weekend - 9/12 June cycling junket at Bundanoon Stuff re this long w’ends jaunt at Bundanoon is in “Long W’end Holiday Rides” in www.muggaccinos.com. Twelve cyclists [listed in a spreadsheet in the Web page] have paid, via PJ, one night’s tariff as a deposit to the hotel. Another 6 have paid a deposit directly to the Publican. Could each intending cyclist e-mail PJ johnstp@cba.com.au the time they expect to arrive at the Pub to facilitate ensuring that rides are tailored to accommodate the vagaries /nuisances of attendees - so that a suitable ride route is provided to accommodate the varying cycling skills. Ride Master, Sig has printed off 20 maps of the Bundy area, so if you don’t like the advertised route, tell him. The optimum route to Bundanoon is along Hombush Bay Drive turning right on to the M5 about 2kms past Roselands Shopping Centre [located on RHS] and staying on the Hume H’way. Continue on thru Berrima [well past the Mittagong turn-off] and take the Sutton Forest turn-off to the left at Golden Vale Rd for 6.3kms until it intersects Illawarra H’way, where you turn right into the Illawarra H’way for about 500 metres and turn left into Sutton Forest Rd for 5.1kms to Exeter where it is a further 6.7 kms to Bundanoon. Pursuant to details under sub-heading “Friday, 9 June” [within “Long W’end Holiday Rides”] if you are taking all of Friday, 9 June, off work, can you be ready to cycle at 9:30am from the Bundanoon Country Hotel, Erith St [opposite Railway Station]. It can be up to 3 hrs drive from Sydney outside peak hour, but this is a long w’end. Hence, if you arrive late and proffer a feeble excuse, expect a few derisive retorts from those who braved the chilly air to get under way at sparrow fart – 6am. Alternatively, Sig has offered for anyone who wants to knock 1¼ hours off the trip to stay at his home at Campbelltown on this Thurs night, but you have to ‘phone him and bring a bedroll etc. Understand that Connie and Mark have accepted thus far. The Web includes likely restaurants for each night and a proposal to participate in the Bundanoon Bowling and Recreational Club’s weekly marketing drive for new members, by having a free game of lawn bowls and/or croquet from 5pm, this Friday, followed by drinks/dinner with the locals in the Bistro. The tucker ain’t a la carté, but it will fill a hole. 2.
Rap up of last Sunday, 6 June, “Breakfast at A clear but chilly morning evidenced 10 cheery cyclists [5 broads (Helga, The Widget, Maria, Connie and Marea) none of whom would make the cut in a tall ladies contest and 5 guys Simmo, Pete, Dieter, The Scribe and Mark] gather at St Ives car park in time to rollout only five mins late at 8:20am – The Enforcer being the only recalcitrant driving into the car park smack on rollout time. Helga, still feeling the effects of a walloping from a bull-bar just before Christmas, drove ahead into the park for the abridged route. Her back isn’t flash, but she’s a tough buzzard. The weather hadn’t warmed up a skerrick when we re-grouped at West Head an hour later, where we had a bit of a kafuffle as Brenda and Marea carrying on with a load of Greenie claptrap about not tossing the banana skins over the ledge “‘cause its bad for ecology”. PJ retorted that we should “think of the critters”. It wasn’t much warmer around 11:10 after 48.5kms, when we sat down for brunch at the Bayview Marina Café. Don’t know what held us up, however, it was after 1pm before we rolled out of next pit stop at Akuna Bay only 17 clicks further on. Brenda, who had laryngitis and hadn’t ridden for 3 weeks was starting to wain as we approached Terrey Hills. PJ muttered during a final spurt along the flat, albeit windy section back into St Ives, “You won’t have any trouble getting off to sleep tonight.” She, of little voice retorted, “Not after I’ve got a few Rum ‘n Ribena’s into me, Vitamin “C” is good for a cold”. ‘Twas a fairly uneventful ride of 82 kms with no mishaps or glaring faux pass ending just before three bells back at St Ives car park where those who completed the 82kms, which skipped the Cottage Point and Duffy’s Forest adjuncts ‘cause it was too blinking cold, had another [4th] coffee at the patisserie op’sit the car-park. 3. Ian’s update on Spain
”Hi Siggy It’s bloody hot. Only yesterday we went on a coach tour starting in a local square in Seville at 9.30am it was then 32º and at 8.00pm upon our return it was 38º. It’s been like that the whole time. They start work approx 10.00am, and work to about 1.30-2.30pm, then have siesta until 5.30-6.00pm then back to work for a couple of hours. We have been eating dinner at between 10.30pm - 12.00 midnight, then going to a bar after. The town really is full of life at about 2.00am. This happens every day. You have to indulge in siesta ‘cause it’s just too hot to do anything. Seville has public swimming pool but they are only open from 1 July ‘cause they don’t consider it hot yet.....f___ing dickheads. >Now this is a true story. Elfi and I had completed a morning tour around Madrid last week and thereupon we went back to a really great square - full of people and plenty of places to eat. After sitting for approx 5 mins 3 Aussie guy sit at the next table. We get chatting; one guy is from IBM (Aust) and the other two from SOCOG. One is wearing a tee shirt with a cycling emblem. I get talking and mention the Paris-Breast-Paris. Elfi then says Ian and his mate Siggy may do it in three years. This guy then says “Oh! How is Siggy?” You really are a well-known cyclist. This guy knows you from the bike shop where you bought the Wheeler bikes. His name is Mark Fulcher. Anyway plenty to tell you upon our return. Hope you and the rest of the gang are well. Best wishes IAN and ELFI. Phil Johnston 5 June 2000 9312.3319 wk – 9498.3684 hm (0416 266.519 only when on the road)
