MUGGACCINO
Pedlars Sunday Cyclists - The Bullsheet 1.
This
Sunday, 21 May, Bike North’s Kurnell
Capers Ride THE
RAINMAN is Sig [‘phone
0407 914
224].
Arrive at Council car park at the Ferry Wharf in Bowden St, Meadowbank,
by 7am for 7:10am rollout. Bike
North caters to a variety of cyclists and periodically waits for the slowest
on this primarily cycle path route, via Cooks River and Botany Bay Cycle ways.
Ride organiser, Doug Stewart [9887.1478
h], has suggested that Muggs
make the café/food hall at the Brighton Novatel, after 30kms, our first
scheduled pit stop, which should be around 8:40am for breakfast.
Re-mounting by 9:10am, we should reach the turn around at Cape Solander
[2kms
into the national park] at around 10:20am after 55kms.
After soaking up the ambience and majesty of Kurnell, the regular bruncheon
stop is 2kms back after the turnaround at a hamburger shop on a corner at
around 10:45am. After shooting
the breeze and chewing the fat
with the Bike North contingent, if we are back in the saddle by 11:20am,
we should return to Meadowbank before 3pm after 110kms of relatively flat
cycle path pedaling.

Rap-up of
last Sunday, 14 May “Quatre Montagnes”
shortish Mothers’ Day Ride from Turra’
[76kms] or Duo Hills Ride from
Hornsby [52kms] Blessed with another balmy autumn morning, albeit the breeze sprung up later, 10 cyclists gathered at 9:30am at our planned caffeine fix of Green Shades Nursery, Galston. The Bald Kraut, The Scribe, Peter “Tougher” T, Affable Ian [now that’s a joke], Simmo “The Enforcer” and the Welsh Widget commenced from Turra’ and it was hell for leather to the Kalkari breather stop at the apex of Bobbin Head. Nicky sent a note for the teacher - something about being crook. Vicki and first timer, Paula, commenced from Hornsby, as did Bruce and Marea. Notwithstanding heavy bookings due to Mothers’ Day, we jagged a menu deal at the flower factory, which satisfied all.
With the sky a deep blue, the vista as we crossed Berowra Waters in the Punt shortly after 10am was easy to handle. PJ told a few jokes he heard at a recent golfing junket, but held back telling one to a new recruit, ‘cause it was crass. Everyone went gangbusters up from the Punt with Bruce, Simmo, Brenda and Marea leading the charge. After a short resuscitator at the roundabout shop, the crew split with some returning to Hornsby. Around 1:30pm the main contingent arrived back at Turra’ with Ian the best ave. of 23.1km/h with no one less than 22km/h. 3.
Update on June long w’end in
heart of Brigadoon Country At bottom of this Bullsheet is a spreadsheet, which details the 12 bookings thus far. In addition, three of Vicky’s nurse buddies have booked directly with the pub, as has a lady that we met at last Oct’s GEAR long w’end, Anne Wilson. Cause the pub is “fulling up chockers”, me hopes others who previously expressed an interest are no longer interested, ‘cause they’d better contact The Scribe faster than Jack Flash or take their chance talking directly with The Publican, Bundanoon Country Hotel, David Kerrigan [4883.6005 ph / 4883.6745 fax] and comply with holding deposit arrangements you agree with him – meaning inform whether you want 2 or 3 nights and post a deposit cheque to the pub pronto. Below are tentative arrangements for our Bundy long w’end. Times/rides will be adjusted to ensure that cyclists who – ¨ Are arriving later on Fri or Sat are accommodated in that day’s ride; and ¨
Who can’t manage more than say forty easy clicks or a healthy bush
walk are similarly catered to. Thursday,
8 June: Arrive at the half-way-house sleep-over, namely Sig’s palatial pad, 17 Patterson St, Campbelltown, by 8pm to stake your claim for a patch of Sig’s floor to lay down your inflatable mattress, then dinner from 8:30pm at nearby Chillies Mexican Restaurant.
Friday, 9 June: Drive from your home at sparrow fart or depart Sig’s at 8am to arrive Bundanoon Country Hotel, Erith St [opposite Railway Station] by 9:30am – normally 3 hrs drive from Sydney outside peak hour, but this is a long w’end. Bundanoon, coupled with charming/quaint village of Exeter [straight out of rural England], is known as the “place of many deep gullies” - located within Morton National Park, with lots of well mapped walks to take out the stiffness are a hard ride. Pre-dinner drinks on Sunday evening: ¨ Either Thistle Carvery, Bundanoon Country Hotel, ¨ Or Sutton Forest Hotel followed by din dins at Cosgrove’s Tea Rooms/Brassiere.
Finally, PJ is bringing about 10 bots of you beaut home brew for the lads’ pre-dinner aperitifs. However, if you like a glass of vino over din-dins, casual empiricism of previous long weekend sorties suggests that you should pack a couple of bots of your favourite colour, ‘cause history has it that they get needed.
