Weekend, 10/11 March '07, "Loop the Lake" Macquarie:
*      Drive
from Railway Hotel Hornsby 11am Sat and check into Wangi Wangi Hotel;

*      40km loosener from 1:15pm NNE to Speers Point with lake on RHS;

*      dinner that night in Wangi Wangi; and
*      80km anti-clockwise
loop on Sun morn' from Speers Point

 

Annual charity fundraiser which attracts about 400 cyclists.  Morning tea provided at Morisset, fruit at Blacksmiths and a free BBQ lunch at Speers Point Park after the ride.  Entry is $35 "pay on the day", with proceeds to John Hunter Children's Hospital.

Muggs has traditionally attracted a contingent for this w'end of cycling and revelry on an idyllic lake.  Over the years we've stayed at different locations on Lake Macq - Warners' Bay Tavern, Wangi Wangi Hotel 4975.1411and camped at Lake Macquarie Village Caravan ParkToothFairy and Pacific Pete are again driving up on Sunday morning.  Kerry aka Miner and his son, Tim, and Bruce aka Another BeanCounter are also driving up at Sparrow Fart on Sunday morn'.

Wangi Wangi Hotel is the bestest.  The hotel fronts a pond linked to the lake in a serene township just off the expressway near Morisset.  Joy at Wangi Wangi Hotel has the below available:

*        Twin rooms with 2 single beds with AirCon @ $50

*        Twin rooms with 2 single beds without AirCon @ $40

*        Large room which accommodates 4 for $60

*        Double room with also single bed @ $60.

Wangi Wangi has a caravan park on Watkins Rd where you can pitch a tent.  The same park has three web titles:

Directions:  Drive Nth from Wahroonga on Sydney-Newcastle freeway.  Take Morisset off-road along Wyee Rd.  After 2½km turn Right into Dora St which changes over the ensuing 9km to Macquarie St, then Warmsley St and finally Wangi Rd.  
 

By 6:50am on Sunday drive 20km NNE to Speers Point Park for 8am start of 80km “Loop the Lake”.

In addition to the above 5 crew, Laurence aka Tyro and Greg aka Architect Too were spotted at the 7:30am Start whereupon it was a helter skelter two 50km circuits to get back before the 12:30 shut down.  Please to report that we all made the 4 hrs 30 min cut-off, albeit Scribe only just squeezed in due to 2 flats on his rear wheel.
