Day 11  -  Bédoin to Mont Ventoux summit  - more Mont Ventoux info

Drive 35km West from our 3rd Base Camp at Sault (el. 760m) to start from Bédoin, climbing 22.7 km to Mont Ventoux ascending 1,622 vert. meters with ave 7.1% - max 11%.

Most cyclists will take the D19, keeping the mountain to their left. After 2km, take the road to the left towards Les Baux and Sainte Colombe.  Passing those two villages, the climb gets slightly steeper. You're passing Les Bruns while the road keeps to the right of the mountain, until you reach St. Estève and its famous bend which used to be even a lot steeper than it is now.  The Mont Ventoux does not give you any respite until you reach the Chalet Renard.  The climb rarely drops below 8% and there are long strokes of 10%+.  Until you reach the chalet, where the climb temporarily offers a brief respite. Whereupon the climb gets harder again while reaching the top.  Consider yourself lucky if the wind isn't blowing you off your saddle. Enjoy the view on the Provence to your left while going in and out of the mountain amidst a lunar landscape. Take the last hairpin to the right at 10%+ and you're there.
