            "There are currently 58 prisoners in NSW jails classified as never to be released due to the horrific nature of their crimes".

 

 

Below are the names and a brief description of the horrendous crimes committed by 35 of the more notorious inmates marked Never to be Released from Australian prisons.

 

 

Males

  • CRESPIN ADANGUIDI - 27, murdered the wife and children of his Chinese gay lover, Raymond Shen, at Rockdale, in 2003.  Convicted of bludgeoning Shiquin Zhu, 55, and shooting Pin Shen, 27, and Christy Bo Shen, 23. In 2005 aged 27 he was sentenced to three life sentences without the possibility of parole.

  • ANDY ALBURY - 50 - Gruesomely murdered Gloria Pindan in the Northern Territory in Nov 1983.

  • ALLAN BAKER, 66  - Rape, torture and murder of Ms Virginia Morse in 1973, as well as the shooting killing of Ian Lamb.

  • MARTIN BRYANT - 46 - Shot to death 35 people at Port Arthur, Tasmania in 1996.

  • JOHN BUNTING - 46 - Sentenced for the murders of 11 people after police discovered the remains of eight rotting and dismembered bodies inside six barrels at a former bank in Snowtown, Adelaide.

  • PAUL DENYER - 45 - killed three women in 1993 in Frankston, Melbourne

  • BRONSON BLESSINGTON, 41 - Abducted, raped and murdered Janine Balding, 20, on Sept 8, 1988. Raped and murdered her. Her body was found hogtied in a dam at Minchinbury.

  • LESLIE CAMILLERI - 49 - Raped and killed Bega schoolgirls, Lauren Barry and Nichole Collins, and Melbourne schoolgirl Prue Bird.

  • JOHN CRIBB, 64 - While on parole in 1978, he abducted and murdered, Valda Connell, 39, and two of her six children, Sally, 10, and Damien, 4, in their home.

  • KEVIN CRUMP, 66  - Rape, torture and murder of Ms Virginia Morse in 1973, as well as the shooting killing of Ian Lamb.

  • ROGER DEAN, 40 - Former nurse convicted of murdering 11 nursing home residents in a fire at Quakers Hill in 2011.

  • PAUL DENYER - 45 - killed three women in 1993 in Frankston, Melbourne

  • PETER DUPAS — Serial killer, Victoria - Serving concurrent life sentences without parole for the murders of Mersina Halvagis, Nicole Patterson and Margaret Maher, and is suspected of more killings

  • MATTHEW ELLIOT, 43 - Abducted, raped and murdered Janine Balding, 20, on Sept 8, 1988. Her body was found hogtied in a dam at Minchinbury.

  • VESTER FERNANDO - Vester and his cousin Brendan sexually assaulted and murdered nurse, Sandra Hoare, after she left work at Walgett Hospital in December 1994. They were attempting to steal her car and used a machete during the horrific attack. Brendan was 27 and Vester 26 when sentenced to life imprisonment in 1997. Two years later, Vester fatally stabbed Brendan in Lithgow Jail.

  • SEF GONZALES, 35 - Serving three concurrent life sentences for the murder of his parents Teddy and Mary, and sister Clodine, at their North Ryde home in July 2001.

  • ANDREW GARFORTH, 52 - Rape and murdered Ebony Simpson, 9, in Bargo as she walked from home from her school bus in 1992. He tied her up with wire, weighted her schoolbag down with rocks and threw her in a dam.

  • JAMES GARGASOULAS - Sentenced to life in prison for killing six people and injuring 27 others when he drove his car through pedestrians in a Bourke St Mall in 2017
  • PAUL HAIGH - 74 - Murdered six innocent people in the late 1970s in a series of shootings and stabbings, including a 10-year-old boy.

  • MICHAEL KANNAN - Selling cocaine in Kings Cross in the late 1990s for Drug Lord, Karam, he shot three men unprovoked outside the Five Dock Hotel in July 1998, killing Michael Hurle and Adam Wright and injuring Ronald Singleton.  In December 1998 he and other gang members executed Karam in a hail of bullets with plans to take over the drug business.  In 1999 he was arrested following a shoot-out with police in White City.  In 2001 aged 28 he was given two life sentences with the court finding he has no prospects of rehabilitation. In 2002 he got a third life sentence for Karam's murder. He is confined to a wheelchair.

  • RICHARD WILLIAM LEONARD - In 1994 Leonard fired an arrow into the heart of Stephen Dempsey, killed him then dismembered his body and kept it in a freezer. Months later he and girlfriend, Denise Shipley, fatally stabbed taxi driver, Ezzedine Bahmad, at Collaroy Plateau. In 1997 aged 24 he was sentenced to life imprisonment on both charges of murder.

  • MATTHEW JAMES HARRIS  - Strangled stroke patient, Peter Wennerbom, 62, in Wagga Wagga in Oct 1998. A fortnight later he murdered Yvonne Ford, a 33-year-old woman who had a mild intellectual handicap he had befriended, by strangulation in her bath tub. Weeks later he strangled his neighbour, Ronald Galvin, and disposed of his body in nearby Uranquinty.  In Dec 1999 he pleaded guilty to three counts of murder and was sentenced to 40 years imprisonment with a 25-year non parole period for each count of murder. The Crown successfully appealed and in December 2000 Harris, 31, was sentenced to life imprisonment.

  • ROBERT ARTHUR SELBY LOWE - 75 - Abducted, raped and murdered six-year-old, Sheree Beasley, who was lured to her death while she was riding her bike.  Sheree was choked to death and her body left in a stormwater drain. 

  • WALTER MARSH, 54 - Former marine who stabbed nurse Michelle Beets to death outside her Chatswood home in 2012.

  • IVAN MILAT, 70 - Killed seven young backpackers in the Belanglo State Forest south of Sydney between 1989 and 1992.

  • DANIEL LESLIE MILES - Miles was serving an 18-year jail sentence for the 1990 murder of his childhood sweetheart, Donna Newland, 16, a crime he committed at age 18. While in jail he befriended a sex worker, Yolande Michael, 29. In late July 1999 he escaped from jail and spent the night with her. The following day he found her in bed with another man at her home in Sefton and he fatally stabbed her. In July 2002 the Crown successfully appealed his 19-year minimum, 25-year maximum sentence and he was sentenced to life.
     

  • MICHAEL MURDOCH, 49, and JOHN TRAVERS, 49 -  Abducted young nurse Anita Cobby as she walked home from Blacktown Station. She was raped, tortured and murdered on Feb 2, 1986.

  • ARTHUR “NEDDY” SMITH, 71 - Involved in numerous murders and was a heroin dealer and stand-over man.  He was jailed for life in 1989 over the deaths of brothel owner Harvey Jones and tow-truck driver Ronnie Flavell.

  • DARYL SUCKLING, 79 - Convicted of the 1987 rape and murder of Jodie Larcombe, whose body was never found.

  • MARK VALERA — bashed shopkeeper David O’Hearn, 59, to death in a random attack at the victim’s Albion Park home in June 1998. He mutilated and dismembered the body. Two weeks later he bashed and strangled alleged paedophile and former Wollongong mayor, Frank Arkell, 68. Sentenced to two life sentences without parole in December 2000, aged 21.

  • ROBERT WAGNER - 41 - Sentenced for the murders of 11 people after police discovered the remains of eight rotting and dismembered bodies inside six barrels at a former bank in Snowtown, Adelaide.

  • ADNAN DARWICHE, NASEAM EL-ZEYAT, RAMZI AOUAD - In Nov 2006 Adnan "Eddie" Darwiche, 30, Naseam "Erdt" El-Zayat, 26, and Ramzi "Fidel" Aouad, 25, were each sentenced to two consecutive life sentences for a series of murders carried out in a continuing dispute between three families of Lebanese descent in south-west Sydney. The Darwiche, Razzak and Fadha family were involved in rival drug dealing operations. In Oct 2003 the men fired at a Greenacre house using SKS rifles and pistols, killing Ziad "Ziggy" Razzak and Mervat "Melissa" Nemra. El-Zeyat and Aouad were also given life sentences for executing Ahmed Fahda at a Punchbowl service station the same month.

Females

  • REBECCA BUTTERFIELD - 37 - a self-mutilating murderer infamous for slicing guards, inmates and herself.

  • MS. VALMAE BECK - 51 and husband, BARRIE WATTS - 55 - raped and murdered 12 year old Ms. Sian Kingi in a Noosa park.

  • KATHERINE KNIGHT, 60 - First woman sentenced to life behind bars after she stabbed her partner 37 times before skinning him and cooking his body parts.
