Crespin Adanguidi

West African man Adanguidi, 27, murdered the wife and children of his Chinese gay lover Raymond Shen at Rockdale, on February 1, 2003.

He pleaded not guilty on the grounds of mental illness. But a jury convicted him of bludgeoning Shiquin Zhu, 55, and shooting Pin Shen, 27, and Christy Bo Shen, 23.

The previous night he attacked Shen, tied him up and held him hostage at his Maroubra unit, demanding $200,000.

In 2005 aged 27 he was sentenced to three life sentences without the possibility of parole. An appeal in 2006 was dismissed.

A man who murdered the wife and children of his gay lover has been jailed for life.

Crespin Adanguidi, 27, pleaded not guilty on the grounds of mental illness to murdering the family of his lover, Raymond Shen, at Rockdale, in Sydney's south, on February 1, 2003.

However, a NSW Supreme Court jury last month convicted him of murdering Shiquin Zhu, 55, Pin Shen, 27, and Christy Bo Shen, 23.

Mr Shen, 59, gave evidence during the trial that Adanguidi attacked him, tied him up and held him hostage at his Maroubra unit on the night before the triple murder.

Adanguidi then went to Mr Shen's Rockdale flat in the early hours of February 1, bludgeoning Ms Zhu and shooting the adult children in the head.

Justice Graham Barr today said the crime was so heinous that it called for the maximum penalty of life imprisonment.

He said the facts of the murders were horrific and he sentenced Adanguidi to life in jail for each of the three murders.

Adanguidi showed no reaction as he was sentenced.

Justice Barr said the motive behind the murders was robbery.

He said Adanguidi was "bent on robbery", had no intention of failing, and had taken a pistol to the Shen's unit to subdue anyone who got in his way.

"Everything the offender did was done out of greed," he said.
