Revelations the little Logan boy allegedly killed at the hands of his step father more than 2 years had been known to child safety authorities.

2 year old Joshua Migala died at the Lady Cilento in April 2015, after emergency crews found him unconscious with 'horrific injuries' at a home in Kingston.

Detective Inspector Mark White described Joshua's death as particularly distressing.

"The death of any child should be considered tragic but the circumstances of this incident were particularly distressing. The young child suffered horrific injuries,"

Detective Inspector White says the little boy had been at home with his mother and mother's partner when the injuries were allegedly inflicted. Police blame the boy's step father for those injuries.

"The injuries were significant and the investigative team were left in no doubt the child's death was not accidental or from natural causes,"

According to Fairfax, the family had been known to Queensland's under-pressure child safety authorities previously.

While the family wasn't the focus of any intervention at the time of Joshua's death, they had been investigated just two years earlier, in 2013.

Child Safety Minister, Shannon Fentiman, released a statement yesterday:

"An investigation and assessment commenced after we were notified by police about his serious injuries believed to be inflicted in suspicious circumstances," she said

"The matter is now before the courts and I thank the police for their tireless and extensive investigation over the two years since this tragedy occurred."

The opposition's child safety spokesperson Ros Bates has labelled Joshua's death "Another Fentiman Failure".

The boy's 28 year old step father has been charged with murder. He's due to face court at Beenleigh today.
