Australia between 1949-1968, Dr H.C. Coombs, famously
recalled that, when he was trying to explain the
complexities of central banking to a friend, the friend
replied:
‘Come the Revolution, you will be hanged as high as the
rest, but as they bear you off to the nearest lamp post, you
will be crying plaintively, “But I am a CENTRAL banker!”
