Wellington
Born 1948.  Family emigrated from England to New Zealand in 1956 and settled later in Wellington. Lived there most of the time and had various jobs until 2002. Came to Melbourne for 6 months and began teaching English as a second language before going to China for 18 months. Decided to live in Oz and went back to NZ to prepare for the move. Through Hugh's legal publishing job in NZ, Hugh procured similar work in the Sydney office.

Started mountain biking in '95, then bought a road bike in '98 and did the Lake Taupo 100 mile Cycle Challenge later that year.  Joined the Wellington Veterans Cycle Club which had a great program of competition throughout the season - road races and time trials - and that was the key to his progress. Completed Taupo three more times and numerous other charity "fun rides" which were essentially races.  Took a mountain bike adapted for the road to China, and had a lot of fun exploring the countryside and sharing the road with all manner of motorised contraptions.

In NZ, there's nothing like the Audax Alpine Classic; "I've got to have a go at that one soon."
