Some forms of cycling are dangerous. An ave of 36 Australian cyclists have been killed annually since 2000. 95% of these fatalities occur on the road. Other cyclists in Australia break bones and incur nerve impairment from falling off their bikes in accidents.
A cyclist could fall from his/her bike, inter alia,
due to -
(iii) cycling too fast on a wet downhill where the
coefficient of friction is much less, particularly at corners; or
A negligent cyclist could - (a) be litigated by a seriously injured cyclist, or 3rd party (ie. a woman pushing a pram on a footpath or a car driver) under common law where the damages could exceed $500,000; and (b) lose his/her home if he/she did not have public liability insurance which covers their negligence whilst on a push bike. A negligent cyclist who did not have personal injury insurance (ie self-employed without income protection cover) could struggle to meet regular outgo commitments.

Gordon, St Ives, Duffy's Forest, West Head 'n return - 72km - 5 riders Oppressive humidity took its toll on BankTeller who should have refilled his water bottle at Terrey Hills before embarking on West Head. Fortuitously, he sourced water at the abandoned Thai Restaurant at top of McCarrs Creek Rd. But that was after trudging/lumbering back up McCarrs Creek Rd
Hornsby, Galston, Sackville Ferry, Windsor, Annangrove Rd Galston - 117km - 5 riders started from Hornsby at 7am. Ann aka ToothFairy, Pete aka CampyAficinado and BankTeller started from Galston Bus Shelter at 7:35am, thereby reducing the route to a more 'manageable' 91km.
Muggs Annual Boxing Day 'catch-up" ride from Hornsby, Sommerville Rd, Galston Gorge, Crosslands Rd, to Berowra Waters cafe. Thence back to Hornsby - 53km - 14 cyclists

We were joined at Fisherman's Wharf by Ann's brother who hails from The Lakes District in England St Ives, Duffy's Forest, Bayview Marina - 56.7km - 7 riders, although four of 'em cycled a further 15km, plus some nasty climbs.
