Some forms of cycling are dangerous.  An ave of 36 Australian cyclists have been killed annually since 2000.  95% of these fatalities occur on the road

Other cyclists in Australia break bones and incur nerve impairment from falling off their bikes in accidents.

A cyclist could fall from his/her bike, inter alia, due to -
(i)      being hit by a car or another cyclist; or
(ii)     encountering a pothole;

(iii)    cycling too fast on a wet downhill where the coefficient of friction is much less, particularly at corners; or
(iv)    getting their bicycle wheel caught in a gap in a timber bridge.

A negligent cyclist could -

(a)    be litigated by a seriously injured cyclist, or 3rd party (ie. a woman pushing a pram on a footpath or a car driver) under common law where the damages could exceed $500,000; and

(b)    lose his/her home if he/she did not have public liability insurance which covers their negligence whilst on a push bike.

A negligent cyclist who did not have personal injury insurance (ie self-employed without income protection cover) could struggle to meet regular outgo commitments.

A seriously injured cyclist could be awarded damages which a negligent cyclist could not afford to pay if the negligent cyclist -
(I)     did not have public liability insurance cover; and/or
(II)    did not possess valuable assets.

Risk Management which warns of the dangers of cycling on public roads with motor cars, potholes and over bridges with vertical timber planks with gaps and cycling much slower on downhills on wet roads etc

Bank Teller's rap-up of Team Muggaccinos' stellar performances on and off the bike in Adelaide for TDU

Pleased to report that all 13 riders thoroughly enjoyed their visit to Adelaide.  Trev aka Tornado did a marvelous job in setting out our day rides so as to see as much as we could of the starts and finishes of the various Stages of TDU.  The Weather Gods were kind to us with the only mega hot day being the day before our big ride.  Brenda aka Welsh Widget came back from a bad stomach bug which had evidenced her bed-bound for 2 days, actually shelf-bound 'cause she was staying in a small room with 4 bunks, to ride 70km of serious hills on Wed and complete the 175km along with the rest of us last Friday.  Click on: Justine aka Trumpeter's pics and Phil aka Bank Teller's pics.  Alas, we didn't get to snap Tony aka Publican or John aka L'Etape. However, they both finished the ride in style, with Publican being the oldest MuggsFinisher.  Muggs will likely be able to muster enough starters to tackle another TDU in 2 years time.

Tour de South Coast  -  27th Dec 2010 to 2 Jan 2011

Bank Teller is keen to offer a week's camping holiday starting after Boxing Day at a camp ground near Wollongong (only 90 mins drive from the Harbour Bridge, and less by train) so as to climb beaut hills like Mt. Keira and do some surfing. We could then catch the train to Kiama to access Jamberoo Pass and to Albion Park to climb Macq Pass. The camp ground would offer cabins for the wosses.  I welcome e-mails from those who may be interested because we would have to book at least 2 months beforehand, as those camp grounds are real popular over Xmas.

Eric aka PapaBear successfully completed his 15th consecutive 200km Audax Alpine Classic from Bright in searing heat

Eric is brain dead. But that minor affliction, possibly a benefit, occurred over 15 years ago.
