Scribe's rap-up of St Ives, Palm Beach 'n return via Wakehurst Parkway Way - 92km - 7 crew

Stephen aka Smurf made a successful comeback after taking a sabbatical during the "HotSeason".  Gene aka KoalaBear also made a return after a lengthy break, although Gene doesn't mind the heat as evidenced by completing the now infamous 200km Audax ride in Oct '04.

Ian aka Flash, Scribe, Pacific Pete, Heineken and Grant aka BeanCounter made up today's team, where our ride on a warmish, overcast, eventually clearing morn', was characterised by no one being in any hurry to leave our Palm Beach Cafe, even if we didn't twig that LongHaul was awaiting us on the ferry.

Mark aka LongHaul's report of last Sunday where he jumped on the 9am ferry to lower Central Coast and couldn't find any other Muggs

I was hoping to catch a few Muggs on the ferry at Palm Beach.  Left home at 7am and zipped up the coast with a detour through Warriewood and the Newport rollercoaster and Whale Beach to reach the grits shop at 8:45 with 39 km under the belt.

Jumped on the ferry and looked wistfully for other riders - none to be seen - but some good eye candy to keep me content. Decided to ride from Ettalong and followed a well worked route past Woy Woy Bay and Staples Lookout (looking very different after the fires) to the servo at Kariong.  Filled up with water there and pushed on to Mooney Mooney and Mount White and Pie in the Sky.  Was planning to stop there but fell into conversation with an Iron Man in training - so we rode together for a while until a little after Cowan.  Then wended down the familiar descents of Bobbin Head (2nd time in 3 days).  Quick stop for liquids at North Turramurra and then home via St Ives and Wakehurst Parkway.  Soon ending with a 146km ride almost entirely solo - good practice for Top to Bottom in July (where we now have 9 confirmed riders - not many places left).

Birdsong along the way was great and the sound of cicadas definitely heading to winter mode. The weather was fine to start with a few clouds; a few sprinkles of rain and wet roads around Somersby and then getting pretty hot around Mt Colah with mercury topping 32C.
