Saturday, 18 Dec, 6:45am from St Ives “Ferry from Palm Beach to Wagstaffe Wharf, McMasters Beach, Avoca Beach, Matcham, Holgate, Lisarow, Niagra Park, Hornsby,  Turramurra, St Ives - 82km - ETR 12:35pm
Or return from Palm Beach with a Nosh Stop at Bayview Marina - 77km - ETR 11:40am

  • Check your tyres for punctures before you arrive, 'cause we catch the 9am ferry from Palm Beach, so don't screw around getting started, otherwise you won't have time to buy grits 'n swill before aboarding the ferry boat.

  • We have to skedaddle on our 98 min 29km 3rd Leg from Wagstaffe Wharf NE to Niagra Park station, 'cause the Choo Choo back to Hornsby is hourly @ 9 min past the hour, and we are scheduled to arrive at Niagra Park station 2 mins earlier, namely 12:07pm.  It is a 57 min train ride back to Hornsby, so you might want to grab some grub to munch on the train.

  • No track work on line between Wyong and Hornsby

  • Ride Leader/Organiser: Phil Johnston - 9498.3684 hm

  • Keep well to LHS.  And get off the road at Sag Stops.

  • On Saturday bring hardcopy of this and Ride Description at 77km in 'Ride Calendar 2004 - Oct to Dec'

  • Never cycle two abreast on a single lane road with an unbroken centre line, 'cause RTA deems those road sections inadequate visibility, so you are vulnerable if cycling 2 abreast

  • Maintain your membership of Bicycle NSW for $20m Public Liability cover in case you cause a serious accident and another Mugg sues you for riding negligence

Scribe's rap-up of last Sunday, 12 Dec, El Tour de Hawkesbury Heights - 117km - 8 crew

Only six of us did the entire 117km - L to R in below pic taken from KOM of our Climb from Shaw's Creek" bridge
Eric aka PapaBear, Trev aka Tornado, Gene aka KoalaBear, Greg aka Grommet, tyro Pete aka Curmudgeon with Scribe taking the below pic.

Whippet 'n Navigator joined us at the entrance to the M2 and from Seven Hills station, they raced our train to Windsor, and might have won.

Four hearty troopers in above snap.  Why? 'cause they'd just pigged-out at the Old Post Office Cafe Springwood.  Tornado and Grommet were filling water bottles.

Gene had the bright idea of adding 26 clicks to our ride by cycling the scheduled train leg from Emu Plains to Blacktown. So after taking in a glorious 3.2km descent along Mitchells Pass we hooked onto the M4 followed by the M2. One slight problem. Good buddy Gene held back to tow a flagging Scribe along.  Whereupon we lost sight of the lead bunch of Grommet, Tornado, Curmudgeon 'n PapaBear. The day warmed-up a tad during the leg from Springwood.  And KoalaBear and Scribe were feeling powerful parched as they soldiered on glancing at every potential cafe or grub stop hoping like hell our loyal lead bunch would wave 'em into a cafe that they'd snared. Alas, 'twasn't to be.

Fortunately, Curmudgeon 'phoned Scribe as they approached Abbott Rd/Johnson Ave lights to let him know that they'd taken a Pit Stop yonks back before the M4 had finished. Scribe retorted, "Oh no that couldn't be, 'cause my loyal buddies wouldn't be so selfish as to not alert their loyal buddies behind of the selected Pit Stop.  Not in this heat.  Not after such a long slog."  Curmudgeon was on his first Muggs' ride, and Scribe thinks he may have successfully "taken a lend of him".  If Scribe had tried it on Grommet, Tornado or PapaBear, he wouldn't 've got any sympathy.  They were just pleased to be enjoying A/C comfort at a McChucks, and to hell with the turkeys behind.

Scribe must've been pregnant, 'cause by that stage with his tongue hanging out and his sugar levels in the red, he'd developed a craving for a McChucks strawberry thick-shake. So Gene faithfully led him in pursuit of his yearning which bolstered his levels enough to stop his whinging 'n whaling long enough to plod back to Turra' with 117km all done.
