St Ives car park Mona Vale Rd [opposite Pattisons Patisserie and Stanley St. junction] BY 6:50am for 7am rollout.  If you are a slowcoach, leave early and cycle E along Mona Vale Rd.  After our customary 14km Duffy's Forest out/back, we enter Akuna Bay clockwise.  Upon completing the circle to McCarrs Creek we head for Church Point Café for 1st Nosh Stop from 8:55am (30 min) [41.5km] adjacent to the water’s edge.  Rookies can cycle 20.1km directly to Church Point and retrace back unaccompanied if they want to.  Or cycle with us to Mona Vale and pedal S down Pittwater Rd taking a L at Mona Vale Hospital for 3km of coastal backroads to Wakehurst Parkway, thence Forest Way, Mona Vale Rd back to St Ives [77km - ETR 11:15am].

 

1st Leg: St Ives to Church Point - 43km
Depart St Ives car-park by 7am -

E along Mona Vale Rd for 6.2km;

L [opposite Forest Way - at Mona Vale Fruit Barn] into Myoora Rd and take a fleeting 1st Sag Stop (3 min);

3km along Myoor Larool Rd until 70m before Booralie Rd;

L into Tepko Rd (75m short of Booralie Rd) for 400m;

L into Booralie Rd and pedal like "shit out of Shanghai" 6.7km flat/fast stretch past Terrey Hills Golf Course and rifle range to Duffys Forest (amidst real pigs, goats, horses 'n cows);

"U" turn at the dead-end of Cow Corner – if you are dragging the chain, cut the corner - and return via same route and pull up 150m past Terrey Hills neighbourhood shopping centre [opposite Terrey Hills Thai Restaurant] for a 2nd Sag Stop (3 min);

Around 8am enter Ku’ring’gai Chase National Park down McCarrs Creek Rd;

At the V (dual entrances to the park) take clockwise [L fork] and descend past Cottage Point, Illawong Bay, Akuna Bay and climb to "T" juncture (West Head is 12km on LHS) for 3rd Sag Stop (3 min);

R and descend to McCarrs Creek and on to Church Point [41.5km] at 8:55am 1st Nosh Stop (35min).

 

2nd Leg: Church Point to St Ives, via Wakehurst Parkway - 33½km
At 9:30am,

L continuing along Pittwater Rd to Mona Vale for 6km;

R at lights for 1km;

L off Pittwater Rd into Coronation St (twds Mona Vale Hospital) for 250m;

R into Sydney Rd for 1.5km;

Sth adjacent to the coast along Sydney Rd, then it becomes Ocean St,

R into Waterloo St for 300m;

R into Pittwater Rd for 100m crossing bridge over Narrabeen Lakes;

veer L into Wakehurst Parkway for a toughish 9.9km (initially flat past Narrabeen Lakes thence a constant, gradual climb - 61.7km @ 10:35am);

approaching crest of climb at cnr French Forest Rd at lights take Sag Stop (5 min)

R into French Forest Rd for 800m;

R into Rabbett St. for 200m decent;

bullet

L into Adams St for a 200m "real tough" grind/climb;

R onto Forest Way for 5.3km;

bullet

L into Mona Vale for final 6.2km flattish hit-out back to St Ives.

Scribe's rap-up of Sunday, 23 Nov SloshFest

No one showed up at Turra' at 7:20am for the scheduled Windsor ride, except Scribe.  A handful of us grabbed 40km at West Head / Akuna Bay that arvo when the sun came out albeit fleetingly.
